My emblems such as the "400" on the hood and "Firebird" on the fenders are in pretty bad shape. Really I need to replace them all. They have some pitting and the red inside the letters is flaking off.
Does anyone restore these? Or, should I just buy some new ones? I read in other posts that the quality wasn't so good but that seemed to be about a year or two ago...any idea how there are now?
Dan, I have been replacing my emblems on my 67 convertible and the new ones are very good. AMES Preformance Pontiac has very good replacement emblems and you can get them in good up to excellent depending on your budget on most of them. NPD is also a good place to buy them. I saved my old ones and my have them restored one day but I don't no much about the cost or who does it. Hope this helps.
I have replaced almost all the emblems on my 'bird, the only ones I have had any problems with are the "Pontiac" trunk letters. I had to waller out a few of the holes that hold the letters in place. The "I" was so bad, so was the "T". Very pleased with the rest.
Another issue is on the 'bird emblems is the red cannot be duplicated. You can use model paint, but will not have the mettalic appearance of the originals. If someone on the board knows how to do this great, but nothing looks as good as the 'bird emblems in their original appearance.
