I swapped out my ST300 for a 200R4 in my 68. For the ST300, the downshift switch (at the carb) was wired to the downshift solenoid in the tranny. Am I correct in assuming this switch is no longer applicable to the 200R4 and that the downshift under full acceleration (i.e. into passing gear) is activated by a properly setup TV cable?
The TV cable on the 200R-4 controls how hard the shift is and not when it shifts.
The governor springs in the transmission control shift points.
I have to get into my own because it has always shifted to quickly. If I just start it in 4th it Will go from first to second at 5 MPH,second to third at 15 MPH and third to forth at 25 MPH no matter how I adjust the TV cable.Having the cable lose makes it shifts very softly, and cable tight makes it shift hard (slam).
I have been just shifting up by hand at a higher rpm. (It down shifts by itself fine).
It won't shift from 4th to passing gear by itself at all no matter where the TV cable is.
