I'm cleaning the pillar posts on my 68. They have paint overspray, and tape residue that has been there for several years. I'm afraid to use anything strong on these. Suggestions?
You can try a product called GOO-BE-GONE. I think it is harmless enough for you purpose. You can find it in many places as it is a common product and it is reasonably priced as well.Apply it with a rag and let it saturate the paint and tape residue for a few minutes and then wipe it.Repeat if necessary.

I use Maguires vinyl and rubber protectant exclusively. You can soak the material with the spray and alow it to soak in and wipe with a terry cloth until all the overspray and residue is gone. You may also try PPG wax and grease remover which (MAY) be used first in an inconspicuous spot.

Murphy's oil soap for general cleaning. Jax Wax Super Citrus for the tuff stuff. The Super Citrus you have to be careful with. Some plastics turn gray when cleaned with it. No effect on vinyl though.
the GOO GONE David refers to "removes stickers, grease, gum ,tar, crayon, lipstick, tape, shoe polish ,blood, asphalt, tree sap, etc" as it states on bottle... I use it a lot,... its citrus power...I use it on "white out", black marker stuff etc in my office...never tried it on pillars ,but its harmless and even smells good.....
I , being irresponsible, might even try laquer thinner on my pillars to get rid of overspray...

I tried, Goo B-Gone, Paint Thinner, Simple Green...but none worked. I couldn't believe what did work though....
Mr. Clean Magic Eraser is the only thing I found to do the trick. It is a small sponge size white abrasive pad, that my wife swears by....I couldn't believe it worked, and didn't damage the pillar posts I was cleaning. I scrubbed hard, and still no damage. I thought it might rub the grain off, but it didn't . Must say this is some great stuff!
What colour are your posts? Is the rest of your interior the same colour and did you use Mr. Clean on that too?
I have the original pearl parchment interior that's in great shape but looking a bit tired. Looking to find something that will brighten it up and have tried only one vinyl cleaner so far (Meguiar's) that didn't work.

My interior is parchment, the pillar posts are black, and those are what I used it on. But as Vikki's post shows.....[censored]! I'm gonna have to do the rest of my interior with them.
I did rinse them in water, and then coat them with a vinyl conditioner when I finished.
I owe the wife big time for this....I'll pass along your kudos.
