Facts are starting come out. An early guess is it was a domestic dispute and then the guy went nuts two hours later. One theory could be he was gunning for the boyfriend. He knew what building he was in but not the room number. So he decides to kill everyone he can find in the building.

when I was in College , I drove a cab...I knew where I could get machine guns in 10 minutes....illegal ,of course ,but they shoot and kill as well as the legal ones
carry concealed is forbidden,but what about carrying in the open ,just like the old west was like...I`ve seen guys like that in Arizona...motorcycle guys with holster and guns , openly...
We have handgun law here, and pretty restricted firearms laws. Most of the crime (except domestic shootings) are using illegal weapons. The registration system here just cost all of us taxpayers a fortune, for zip.
Hard to say what you could do to stop something like this. Maybe more cameras, better doors with remote locking controlled from where the cameras are being monitored. They could have locked things down after the first shooting. They could have seen him putting chains on the doors if they had cameras on exterior doors.
the counselors noting that he wrote weird essays, should have sent him to a specialist a little earlier...evidently it was well known he was very strange, wrote weird gross stuff ... I think thats the only ones that might have had an insight...other than that...nobody could...only defense you`d have as a student would be to run faster than a bullet , or shoot back.... but knowing how frat parties go on, not sure weapons on campus would be so wise...

I am a little late getting in on this topic, I live here in VA and have visited VA tec many times. There are still a few local kids from my are going to VA tec that have not been heard from yet, scary felling. So please add a few prayers in for them tonight. On to the concealed handguns thing, here in VA you can obtain a concealed handguns permit. I hold one, Have to get certified thru a NRA approved training course and complete FBI back ground check but not hard to get. ANyone can also legaly cary a handgun in this state on your sidearm as long as it is NOT concealed and holstered without a permit. There are a few catches to carrying a firearm with or with out a permit, You CAN NOT carry into any place that sells alchol which is every conveniant store in the state, You CAN NOT carry within a school zone, you CAN NOT carry in any federal or state building like court house, post office ect.

I was kinda thinking that last night after I posted the pics. Was gona get online this morning and remove post but I am glad you all beat me to it.
