Well the Firebird has started for the first time!!!!!!!!!!!! Can't tell you all how happy I am. Or how anxious. I wanna go run it some more just to hear that sweet, sweet rumble but it's after 10 and my neighbor's window is all of 8 feet from my garage...
So exactly one year ago (4/19/06) I bought a 67 Firebird coupe that was missing many parts and hadn't run in "a decade or two" according to the previous owner. I've never done any restoration before so this has been a great learning experience. First time rebuilding an engine, first time rebuilding a transmission, first time rebuilding a carburetor. First time even owning a car that has a carburetor.
Anyhow tonight my fiancee and I did the final prep, hit the accelerator pedal a few times, and pushed the button (yes I have a button and yes it's temporary) then vroom it started up right away. I didn't expect that...thought for sure it wouldn't start. God that sounded awesome. I can still hear it. What a great 1st birthday for the bird
well many thanks to everyone for all the help. My lunch break for the past year has been spent reading firstgenfirbird, thefirstgensite, and classicalpontiac. On saturday I'll have some free time to change the oil and fire it up again...yessssssssssssssssss
oh yeah I got it all on video but in the excitement we forgot to shut off the camera so the file is quite long and large (180MB)...gotta figure out how to shrink that down
Good for you Dan. I hope to fire mine for the first time tomorrow weather willing (as I will have to bring it out of the garage to ward off asphixiation during the initial break in).
I too will get a lil video of it for everyone...may even take it for a rap up the street if all seems tight...
I didn't expect it to start up so easily because it's my first time with all of this. First time with the engine rebuild, carb, setting distributor timing, etc etc. But man was I happy to hear that thing fire
David, my garage was really smokey last night even with a few fans going; had some transmission fluid dripping down on the headers... I can't move it out though cause I ripped apart the front passenger suspension in order to put in the fuel lines. Good luck with your startup
man I got more pictures than I know what to do with. Here's about a hundred. Just click on the link then on the pictures, you shouldn't have to enter any passwords or usernames. There are two albums in this share
Yes that is a bee hive that I found in the kick panel and yes I did take apart the carb on my couch (shortly after knee surgery...I was bored).
oops I think I arranged my two albums backwards. Album 1 is newer stuff, album 2 starts when I got the car a year ago. no pictures in there from the last month though
