Walked out Friday morning to get in my truck and there it was....gone! 2006 F150 Crew...almost brand new! 2 days now and still has not been found. Hope it doesn't...
Worst of it is I had a $400 GPS, XM Radio, prescription serengetti sunglasses and my ATV and cabin keys in it.
Too bad , hope they find the guy(s) that took it...
I`d about to say %$$@$ thieves too, but not as bad... back the bird out before nooin today to take a cruise with Andy Hewes...looked dirty ibnside so I decided to use the shop vac...GONE! nothing else missing...but it was always in full view when door was open , and my wife insists onleaving the garage door open as she takes her bike ride! You would think she would close it , after all I ask her to....but NOOOOO...
and after I found that out , I power wshed my pool deck,,, well last ten minutes I had to stand on the switch , it broke...at the same time I hear the bearings go out...so todays result: Bjorn 0 - Tools 2 got to get newpower washer now (not wortth fixing), plus shop vac.... anyway , all in all a good day , nice cruise, got my deck cleaned...there`s always some silver lining...
I say cut off their fingers!! One rule I follow is never leave anything in you car you care to hold onto. Thieves don’t care what stuff comes along for the ride. Hope your insurance will cover the additional items that were stolen.
I noticed that my classic insurer, Grundy, has a theft provision that the car has to be gone for a certain length of time before they pay a complete loss on it. I think it's a month.
Dave, I'm sorry to hear that. Please what ever you do don't go for a new Ford for diesel. Mine has been a thorn in my side since i purchased it new. 19,478 miles on it ,2005 it's been in the shop numerous times and has had the engine pulled twice. Yes pulled out!! I really wish it was mine that was stolen. I miss the f-150 I sold. As I write this it is in the shop for an a/c problem, rear end problem, and a computer reflash. I wish you had a note in your truck telling them to take mine. I would have given them all the time in the world to report it gone. Once again sorry for your loss. Ron
69 RA III T/A Auto 69 Sprint vert 3speed ( sold to a new home) 69 350 coupe ( new home in Denver) 69 350 HO 4spd
I have insurance that will replace it with a new one in the first year if damaged to a certain point. I'll find out tomorrow what the adjuster says. They have the vehicle, so they just have to estimate cost to repair, and from my guess it's over 10K and likely could be 15K+..may be better to part it out.
Don't worry maxpr, I stick with F150's, no sense luggin all that rear end and weight around if i don't need it. Most I ever haul is firewood, a sled or ATV, and the odd deer or elk....amd thats usually within a 20 mile radius of the cabin.
I got held up at gunpoint two days ago in front of Safeway. The guy wanted me to get in my Honda Civic (commuter car) and take him to an ATM to get him some cash. He made me give him the car keys. When I got the chance, and the car was between him and me (he ordered me into the driver's seat), I took off running and he left with the car.
He later wrecked it (overturned) into a guy's backyard a mile away and they are still looking for him. The cops do know who it is, though. I picked him out of a photo lineup last night. Links:
if car jacked,or held up like this, throw the car keys in under your car!! then run off... He cant get to them so he`ll have to go elsewhere...you can always fish out the keys with time...in a situation like this , he with gun ,doesnt have the time!
Bjorn, The only problem there is that I was so surprised that I was actually being held up, that I my instincts didn't kick in until AFTER I had already given him the keys once he demanded them.
Good job Dave. The second you balked at giving him the keys may have got you shot. Who knows, right? One thing we do know is that what you did kept you alive. Good job.
My friend was helfd up like that too, he was just in his 85 Mustang ,witrh door still open ,when a guy stuck a gun in his side..."Gimme your wallet ,your Rolex and leave the keys"....keys already in ignition...

...but I dont think (even though crooks arent that smart) he would be dumb enough to shoot a guy that threw the keys under the car, b/c of the noise, and then he has three choices ,go get the keys (lots of time), run (too slow), or get another car (by now ,he has 'alerted' the area...) so I think he`d really hesitate to shoot for "revenge"(you got rid of "his" keys), and getting himself in jeopardy like that
I'm not a light dude (Currently working on that)... but I guarantee I outran the fastest NFL running back that night.
Hindsight's always 20/20 but I'm not sorry about how I handled it. I have the most important thing (my life) and quite a story to tell! If you had seen this methhead guy face to face and see he had nothing to lose, you might have done what I did. But like I say, the shock slowed down my instincts.
Dang... things are wacked all over! Or... maybe it's just the Name Dave that send people over the edge? (JK) Sorry to hear that both of you have gone through such ordeals... Great White Dave, Ken Plantz up your way also got his new truck hiested right out of his driveway. They never did find that one... good thing his bird wasn't running and in the Garage... Glad they didn't go after anything else.
Mile High Dave, [censored]! Glad to hear your ok... I'll have to ask my buddy who lives near you what he was doing that night... (JK) Seriously... that is a situation where you just never know how it will work out... you did what it took to get yourself out of the situation, and that's what counts. Nothing to second guess.
Strange, but I was thinking of this same scenario just today as I drove my 61 Bug to work, and had to stop at a convenience store where there was a shooting just a few weeks back... I was keeping my eye on everyone there and watching to make sure no one was lurking... you can't lock the drivers door in these from the inside... and it's not the fastest getaway car... can't say as I would have known how to react if it did come up...
Just glad you guys are ok, and as mentioned, the vehicles can be replaced, you guys cant!
Let us know how it turns out with the insurance Great White Dave!
You may say a car can bbe replaced but truthfully for me...if my bird was taken from me, it would be like loosing a brother. I know that may seem a little much but its more than true. I havent even really driven my bird and i feel that way. The fact that i spent almost two year already researching, restoring, rebuilding this car makes it my life. I come on here (firstgenfirebird.org) hmm maybe ten times a day, look at parts 20 times a day. its a part of me. I cant find any other car my family has had since they bought it new. But you guys are thankfully safe now out of harms way.
P.S. IF ANY OF YOU TAKE MY BIRD I WILL HUNT YOU DOWN! haha but seriously I will.
sorry to see that dave.since the truck is so new;they probably will repair it.i hate fu*king thieves.all they are good for is moving targets for my .45
I met with the insuranced [idiot] yesterday, gave my statement, had to sign a document saying I did not steal my own truck and wreck it and smash all the electronic add ons!
They had not yet towed it to their facility for evaluation, said it might be 3 more days, so count on 5! They also said the rental was covered up to $500, which is up tomorrow...sheesh! I'm going to argue that one as they have taken there d@mn sweet time for the adjuster to look at it...I don't CARE how busy they are!
Believe me, if I had my .300 win mag in my paws, and I caught them going down the road, done deal! problem is it's a neighbourhood...one always has to watch the backdrop ....
It's sucks moose cocks... Hearing these stories pisses me off.
Know how you feel, but to insurance companies, it's just another day. Same with cops. They get hard skins. Have no choice really.
20 some years ago, one local gang made new recruits car jack before becoming full fledged members. Many people who previously didnt, started legally arming themselves. A few bad guys got shot...couple killed. It's rare here now.
Winter time my keys and wallet are in my coat pocket. And summer time, back pocket...or are they...?
