Wondering if the a/c had a idler pulley on the bottom part of the belt? At high rpm (forget to turn the a/c off lol)they are being thrown off. Its a 69
No problem. I had both my belts come off recently, and it wasn't until I discovered that I left out a 1/16" thick spacer (when I changed the dampener) that I figured out the problem. I never thought that such a small misalignment could cause such problems. Go figure.
Spacer is there. Alingment looks pretty good, going to get a straight edge and check pulleys. The belts they sell for the car are a bit thicker than the original ones.
Check out the pulley on the compressor. If one side of the "V" is more polished than the other, then the pulleys are misaligned. It's tough to get a straight-edge in there! It's also important to make sure the compressor is lined up striaght, too.
I built the a/c with parts that were in the trunk when i bought the car and junk yard parts. The spacers on the a/c compressor front bracket were missing, so i used a **cough** ford alt. spacer cut in half. Well, i added a couple of washers and bingo, the belt stayed on during a burn -out. Thanks for your help.
No problem ... glad I got this one right! I was getting worried. (I'm not sure what my record is, but I'm hopin' it's at least better than a major league batting average!)
Plus, it helps to have just gone through the problem myslef!
