I have decided to paint on HO stripes on my 68 400. I dont want to spend on decals and my painter is throwing it in for free besides, but the problem is, I cant find any reference or dimensions for it. Would anyone know the spacing and dimensions? I want to look as correct as possible.

You and your painter realize that HO stripes are the ones on the side and have an "H.O." in the center of them, right? It's not really something that's easy to just tape off and do unless you don't care about having the text in them and just want the stripe.
Here's a link to the HO stripe kit from Phoenix Graphix that has a picture of it. If this is what you mean, maybe someone else here who has them can measure theirs for you.

Here's what Tim is talking about. I snapped this photo at the Pony Show last week. I don't see how you'll get a satisfactory reproduction and save money, compared with buying the stripe kit.

thanks for the replies, i meant just the stripes without the HO lettering on them, so they shouldnt be that hard to reproduce right? I realize theyre called rallye stripes and theyre more correct for my 400 since i dont have a hood tach nor ram air.

are you talking about the H.O stripes on the sides or the trans-am stripes on the hood, roof and trunk.

HO side stripes

I bought a set off ebay for about $50-$70 a couple of years ago. Can't remember who from, and I haven't installed them yet but it is a nice kit, with all the instructions, and installation kit included. These were from a guy who either reman'd them or had them redone.

I'll just need the widths(or is it height?) anyway, i mean the vertical measurement of each of the three stripes, the width of the spacing between them and the total width of the whole thing.

I purchased a new stripe kit from AMES. I am measuring 1 7/8" from top to bottom of the three-series stripes. Each small stripe measures 1/4". The center large stripe measures 3/4". The space between the top stripe and the center stripe, as well the space between the center and the bottom stripe is 5/16".

1/4 + 1/4 = 1/2 (Top/Bottom small stripes)
3/4 + 1/2 = 1 1/4 (Center,Top and Bottom combined)
5/16 + 5/16 = 5/8 (Spaces)
1 1/4 + 5/8 = 1 7/8 (Entire stripe)
