got it sand blasted and metal preped. gonna use the por 15 i guess. my can says rust incapsulator. plus i have two cans of under the hood chassis black.
i'm going to try and get it done this week end.
i guess i will put it on jackstands paint one side then flip it?
Powdercoating is the way to go IMO. It looks great and is a lot tougher. However, it can get a little pricey. I have started powdercoating some small things (hood hinges, motor mounts, etc.) and boy do they look fantastic. The parts that can't be powdercoated... look good painted, but scratch with only the most minor mishandling.

i would but $ is a problem, have a kid on the way. but i fugure that i will get the car together and later i can go over th e top on the resto. i want to 0drive it atleast a year or two.
beside when i seen the job they did at the paint shop with the por, it was just as goo.d as the powdercoating.
very little time...good thing the body shop is slowwwww.
got most of the stuff thats important done...
short block= done and assembled heads = done tranny = ok body = bodyshop prison(maybe will be done in 3-6 months?)
the interior and top can wait, main thing is to be able to start it up and be able to move it in and out of the garage.
if i have to i can drive it with the old interior, and top.
i've been buying parts for this car since i've been 18 now i'm 34. i think i might have a chance of gettiing done by next year, i have only been serious on the car for the last couple years or so and it's made alot of progress. sad thing is most people here in the kc area get jelous and try and destroy the car, (i've had to prior paint job atempts) and this is the second time i have had my frame sandblasted and painted.
i guess anything worth doing is worth doing twice or three times.
i think this will be the time the car gets painted and the frame gets painted correctly.
if not i think i'll load it up and take it to the recycler.
why is there always so much drama when it comes to redoing an old car? i mean if it was a 4 door tempest or something it would proably be done by now, it's like everyone around here has to put there mark on it. "stock" is just not go enough.
anyways the more i think about it stock is the way to go, must be since everyone is so dead agaist it.
man if i had a quater for everytime i've heard "you should clone a ta" or "put a 400 hood on it"
sorry to vent on you guys. i think it will be a nice change to see a 350 vert with a flat hood for a change. most around here have a 400 or a 455.
No apology needed Johnny. I'm the same way about my Vert. I've heard so many saying 455 it or resto-mod it, and its just because it's a base OHC 6. Yes it's a low value convertible, but it's mine. It would probably be worth more with a V8, 400 hood and all the frillies. At most I may eventually install a Sprint 6 engine I have. But that's a long way off. It's your car, build it your way.
Wanting a Custom fit in an off the rack world.
I don't have time for a job, I just need the money.
i like the 6cyl cars..i think they would be more fun. you can drive them more and save on gas. i would love to have a 69 with a 6cyl 4-3 speed to drive around.
beside wernt they a 50-50 ratio 6's and 8's? wheres all the 6 cyl camaros n birds?
been along time since i seen one. i think they are actually more rare. like my uncles smog on his car.
one mod i think would be cool is make a ultimate mpg first gen bird with like a inline 6 and a 6 speed. maybe get like 30mpg?
Hey Johnny, which shop are you using to paint your car. I had Gil's in Gladstone do some paint work on mine and they did a fantasic job, though that was at least three years ago.
Heck, who would want to put a boat anchor 455 in their car anyway? :P Drive what you got, when it's all back together, and enjoy it!
ultimate autobody & chassis. in smithville used to be z's autobody.
the guy is a 69bird nut. just takes awhile.
he just did a 69 mustang 428 dragpack car. real real nice. i will have to get some pics.
he's got three cool cars in the shop now, 69 bird vert(mine), 69 vert camaro, 68 440 4 speed charger. and a 68 bird out back thats getting destroyed form the rain(but the owner said push it out back and i'll be back).
