Is anyone running a stock aircleaner housing on a first Gen Firebird with an Edelbrock Electric choke carb? I'm trying to use stock valve covers, and run a breather tube from the passenger side to the aircleaner housing, except I can't find an aftermarket valve cover breather with a nipple that will fit the stock size hole, so I've decided to run an original style aircleaner so I can hook up the stock set up from the valve cover.
I have what appears to be a stock air cleaner with chrome valve covers. A rubber hose runs from the air cleaner into a rubber gromet on th valve cover. I don't think that hose is stock, but it works good.
I'm constantly blowing out the valley pan rear seal, and after talking to a few engine builders, they recommend running a PCV valve and 2 evac breathers. I've been running a PCV, and 1 breather on the passenger side. The driver's side I've got a breather on now, but can't get the darn thing to seal since it is a twist on factory style. I've doubled the gasket, and tapped the ears down to tighten up the seal, and I'm still blowing oil out of it. So, I'd like to have the added evac into the air cleaner to use the vac. created by the carb to evac the crank case. So I'd like to run a PCV, 1 evac breather on the passenger side, and I'll try and seal up the breather leak on the driver's side. I've also got a new aluminum valley pan I'm going to install to help cure the problem. I'm just tired of sending oil down the back of the motor down onto the clutch setup. If anyone has a better idea, I am all ears...
I just bought a valve that replaces the stock pcv valve. When connected properly, it puts the crankcase in a vacuum while running. I'll let you know if it works after I get it installed.
I have a 1406 w/ electric choke with the stock air cleaner w/ the breather tube. I had to lengthen the rubber hose between the tube and the fitting on the air cleaner to get it to sit properly, but other than that it is all good!
Rommel, do you have the PCV in the vally pan? Also the hose off the PCV should be routed to the intake manifold.
The stock air cleaner has a steel tube with a short rubber connecting hose that goes to the valve cover.
One thing to check is the hose from the PVC. When the car is running make sure the hose doesn't collapse when you give the motor some revs. Old PCV hose will pinch closed under increased vacuum.
Tom, Your setup is what I'm looking to recreate. I don't have my original air cleaner but I do have a couple of different stock vent tubes like yours. I do have the PCV in the front of the Valley Pan routed to a manifold port on the Carb, the tubing for it is good.
Bronze Bird, I tried the company no joy. What did you pay for your new PCV from them? I can't find a price on their website.
Rommel, I paid $40 for it. My buddy ordered 6 and all are sold. He is a machinist, and installed one on his '67 Camaro. He said it cured his main seal oil leak. He connected a vacuum gauge to his dipstick tube and it showed that the crankcase was, in fact, in a vacuum.
Nash, I agree. The web site looks cheap...and honestly, so does the product. But, it comes highly reccomended. Also, my pcv valve was originally connected to the manifold near the carb when I was running the Qjet and Pontiac manifold. The E'brock carb<as you probabl;y already know, has a connection at the base of the carb that provides manifold vacuum.
I will attempt to connect the EN-VALVE to the original port in the valley pan, and to the base of the carb. I will also have to plug the hole in the passenger side valve cover.

There's a guy still selling them for the original inventor, google En Valve, and it will lead you to their site. They are about $60 with shipping now. It sounds like it should work, and I read many testimonials about it, but I'm concerned that it will cause performance issues, by adding too much air to the intake mixture, and causing a lean condition that I can't tune out. Bronze, let me know if you had to re-tune for the En Valve, or if it ran without any changes.
I may be barking up the wrong tree with this Crankase Pressure issue. I just know I'm blowing oil out rear of the valley pan, and want it to stop. I'm running 2 breathers (the twist on has a poor seal in the stock valve cover, and I'm going to be making a rubber gasket to help alleviate that), I'm also running a PCV vlave. Thought if I got my setup to be more like stock I wouldn't blow rear valley pan seals. (Vent passenger side back into air cleaner housing.
Anyone running 2 PCVs? Issues with this? Problems?
Intalled EN-VALVE this evening. I plugged the original pcv valve at the valley pan. The EN-VALVE fit into the breather grommet in the passenger side valve cover. I connected this to the manifold vacuum port at the base of the carb. Everything seems to be working fine. I did notice that my idle speed dropped about 100 rpm. I'll have to re-adjust that. A quick ride showed no difference in performance. I also confirmed 3" of vacuum at the oil dipstick tube at about 1200 rpm.

The Germans have been doing this for years! Try taking a oil filler cap off a german car while its running, one massive vacuum leak. And, yes, if done right will work wonders on your oil leaks. You just need to maintain the seals on the engine to maintain vacuum.. rob..

Emil, the inventer of the ENVALVE returned my call to night, he even called back after getting my answering machine. I spoke with him about the product, and figure I'll give it a shot.
If anyone need his contact info let me know. As for price, it is $48 shipping included.
Bronze Bird, are you noticing any increase in engine temp? Took her for a drive today with the En-valve today, and it came up to temp quicker and idled around 190 vice 180 degrees. Didn't get above 195, and it was a warm day today so I'll have to see on my next couple of drives. It would make sense that the temp would increase since I'm injecting fumes back into the intake. My idle seems to have increased about 100rpms like yours. I'm thinking of adjusting the mixture to richen it up a bit. I think the fumes are leaning out the mixture....thoughts?
My engine temp didn't noticably change. I usually run 195ish in the summer at speed.
You're injecting fumes back into the intake under stock configuration, also. Shouldn't need to adjust the mixture. But, you never know. Did you connect the same way as I did?

Yep, same setup. Just some thoughts... You are correct about the stock setup and fumes, I didnt' think about that. I'll run her for awhile and see. I do like the positive vacuum created by the En Valve.
