I went to Sears today to buy a battery for my 67. When the guy looked up the number for the correct battery, it showed that the only type of battery that the car used had side posts? It clearly needs top posts. Is this Sears just not informed correctly or does Sears just not carry a DieHard battery that fits? I've always used DieHard batteries in my cars. What would someone else recommend if I can't get a DieHard battery?
just about any battery will fit if the posts are on the correct sides. yes, you should have top post. when i worked at sears, they had just come out with diehard gold, i picked the biggest one i could find on the shelf. i think it had 925cca. origionals may be as low as 675cca or so. now that same battey number i had is superceded to a smaller battery with both top and side posts, with the posts in the middle, so it fits almost anything. i forget the number, i think i got it the first time five fingered. might have been western auto. ahhh... so many memories.
Scoobie , I had same problem , went to Sears 2 yrs ago ,bought a "die Hard" , but I decided to live w/ the side posts...its nice to have the posts out of the way ....but its not orig. looking...but I just replaced the cables... Bjorn
Spring for an Optima. Comes with both side and top posts, tons of cranking power AND NO ACID LEAKS.
I've patched/replaced my last blasted radiator core or inner fender destroyed by battery leaks.
