So I was cruisin in my 68 bird when it stalled on me. I could not start it back up. Now this really was not good because when it stalls no power steering and no power brakes. But I came to a stop safely. Anyhow, there was a lot of fuel pouring out of the carb. the engine cranks but will not start. Any ideas? All stock 350 engine and carb.
Howw long had you driven when it stopped? first drive after carb work? I had a very similar problem with a Triumph GT6....it had a pin hole on the float, so float would fill with gas while driving ,then sink....
Float is stuck. For a temporary fix, rap on the front top of the carb with the plastic end of a big screwdriver. They usually unstick like that. You may have to dry your plugs off to get it to start. Sometimes if you roll it enough without giving it gas it will fire after the plugs are flooded. If you don't want to take your carb apart and clean it then you can try some STP gas treatment to help clean the varnish out of the carb.
I've disconnected and plugged the fuel line, run the carb dry(assuming you can get it started), and blown air through the carb for a temp. fix. Then, I rebuilt the carb. Same problem after about 6 months. I replaced the carb.
My 2 cents...
