We'll be painting various engine parts, valve covers, oil pan ect. I am down to bare metal on most of these parts. Do I need to use a self ethching primer coat to the bare metal parts before I apply the engine paint to these parts?
Most engine paints do not recommend or require a primer on iron surfaces. Many do recommend a primer on steel surfaces. Follow the paint manufacturer's recommendations for the correct primer and application.
