I added a oil pressure, volts and water temp gauges to my 68 firebird. I tapped into the lighting circuit for the shift indicator bulb to power the gauge lighting because it was the most convenient. I just discovered by looking at the electrical schematic (again) that the shift indicator bulb is not in the dimmer (rheostat) circuit. Unfortunately, I cannot tell easily what the two wires I need to tap into for the rheo circuit are. Can someone let me know the color of the two wires I need to splice into in either the column connector or the connector in the back of the gauge pack? Thanks

I believe the orange wire is a dimmer. It goes to the dome and courtesy lights. You should see one under the dash. I believe you need the orange and the white.

Joe, the gray wire for the heater control and the radio lamps are off the rheostat.

Oh, gray is the hot side of course, and just ground to the body.

Thanks. I should be able to tie into the defroster console lighting pretty easily since it is very near the gauges I installed.
