Hi Guys, I'll be picking up my engine from the machine shop this week. It is a 1969 400 w/46 heads. I went with the Butler performance stroker kit and it's bored .060 over. I'm wondering what carb everyone is using for this. I'm thinking of going with an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake and a Holley Street Avenger 870 carb. I plan on eventually getting aluminum heads. I'm mainly concerned about the carb being too much for the 46 heads right now. This is going in a 68 Firebird with turbo 400 tranny and headers, 373 gears. Any opinions? Thanks! Dave
There is another option also. I have a Torker II intake and an older Holley 750 carb. Not sure how good the carb is. Maybe I should give that combo a shot???
Whether the Torker is a a good choice depends partly on the camshaft. The other factor is the heads which really don't sound like anything more than stock. So with that much information I would say stay with the RPM manifold and use your 750 until you step up to the new heads.
Thanks! You are correct, the heads are stock. They will be the bottle neck until I get some nice aluminum heads later. I went ahead and ordered the Edelbrock Thunder AVS 800 and the Performer RPM intake. The cam is 244int/254exh 508/532 lift. Hopefully everything will work OK together until I can get the better heads. If not....I'll just have to explain to the wife that I "HAVE" to get new heads! That will probably work eh?
