I looked at a 67 Firebird this past weekend, a basic 326 2spd automatic with column shift. Besides the shift indicator are there any other differences like the rods or whatever if I was to convert this to a Turbo400 but still keep the column shift.
I switched out a powerglide for a th200r4. Needed a different tranny cross member and bought a kit from shiftworks ($50) to hook the column shifter to the tranny. Works fine.
Thanks Jim, I was mainly concerned with the shift linkage and whether it was same or different. Now I know. Thanks. Also I still have the Turbo400 setup from my 68 so I have that all complete. I'll make my offer on the car on Tuesday night.
Trident: I checked out the shiftworks site, did you also buy the shift indicator lense they sell or did you stay with the 2spd indicator.
I used the existing 2 speed indicator because I do not race and do not need the # 1 & 2 markings. I just throw it in "D" and go. If I put the tranny in those low gears the needle just shifts off the dial to the right - no big deal to me.
I eventually want to install a floor shift so I didn't spend the money.
