On a repeat of the show "Muscle Car" over the weekend that had a bit about re-chroming, I never would have thought it was such a pain-staking process. The parts they did for the Challenger they are building sure did look nice, even on TV. As with everything, I'm sure there's the right way and the not so right way to do it.
The company that was used on the show is Advanced Plating out of Nashville. www.advancedplating.com
A rechrome by advanced I think was either $650 or $850 per bumper when I asked for a quote. I even tried getting 4 done at once but they offered no qty discounts. Tri City plater in Tn was cheaper but not by much. Sorry but I can get a repop for $125, I'll save the originals for when I have money to waste. Kind of the same with steering wheels, I'll go aftermarket until I can justify the cost. Sometimes it just ain't worth the cost at the time. Plus it gives me something to do later on should I ever get finished.
Wanting a Custom fit in an off the rack world.
I don't have time for a job, I just need the money.
I paid $320 to have Tri City replate a friends front bumper that was tweaked on the left side.
850? Not for a Firebird bumper. Not for a front/rear Firebird bumper together. Unless they needed ALOT of work.
The key is buying good straight solid cores. I paid $80 and 110 for two 400 bumpers and $320 to replate one. $420 for a replated original 400 bumper is 1/2 the price of a $239 repop bumper that will fade in about a year or two. Then you need to drill the holes for emblem (if so equipped).
Stick with a solid OEM bumper and have it rechromed. Since you are overseas, you want something that will last and worthy of your shipping costs and hard earned cash.

I paid $250 here in town for a rechrome of 57 Studebaker bumper (7 yrs ago) ,VERY NICE... then I had my 69 front firebird bumper rechromed, dents taken out ,very nice job for $280...(4.5 yrs ago)
I plan on driving my originals down to a place called Artistic Silver Plating, Inc. in Signal Hill (Long Beach area), CA., when I get ready. They quoted me $350 to straighten and replate. Chip Foose uses them.
Wonder what rechrome cost in Norway? Might be cheaper in Europe than here.
I'd have to look at it the opposite of Banhsee, with 2 way shipping cost that could make a bumper rechrome $1000 (worst case) depending on who did it, when a repop might be $250 with shipping. Depends on your pain level I guess. I couldn't justify spending that much on a Bumper.

I boxed up the bumper and FedEx ground to Tri City. Was $23.98
Shipped a 400 bumper to Cali WITH the grilles, headlights, filler, 43# $38 and change.
Shipping is not expensive if you know where to get exact sized boxes (to save on oversize fees)
$270 plating $100 core, $60 shipping to/fro $430. $170 more for an exact fitting, guaranteed OEM bumper if you include tax in the $239 repop.

not including shipping , I bet anywhere in Europe its more...the reason chrome plating is going up here is copper prices AND the EPA regulations...(what Ive been told by plater)
Get your chrome done in Europe while you can. The Europeans are bent on removing all Cr-6 (hexavalent chrome) from the continent. Maybe they watched Erin Brokavich too many times?
I got my front done for about the same price as Banshee is quoting here in Dayton at Metal Brite 937.278.9739 All they do is car and bike chrome for hot rodders.
if you want to ship to Houston,Tx, (looks like price may be good down here) Bright Metals of the Heights on 626 E 11th St does excellent work ,also does many MC parts, hot rodders...tel 713-861-0729
