I'm installing new '68 carpet and need to know which comes first, the kick panels or the carpet. There is quite a bit of excess carpet on the sides and it looks like it will be a pain to trim.
Thanks.

Either way. You can tuck it under the kicks with them installed.

Its a bit of both....

Id vote for carpet first as the kick panel has to cover the carpet area by the door area, and the sill over the carpet and panel. Its probably best to lay the carpet, then rough install the kick panels, trim the carpet, then permanently install the kick panels. You can do the panels first, but you'll need to wiggle the carpet under the panels, which can be a pain.

Getting your kick panels in is a blank of a job. Get those in, then worry about the carpet. You can easily tuck it under as Jim says.

the po of my car trimmed carpet too short at the kick panels. I'd leave the panels in, then tuck.

I agree with Bronze Bird. Get your kicks in firs. They are a royal PIA to get in without carpet and darn near impossible to get in with the carpet. Just cut off very small strips until you can easily tuck it under the kick panels.

Hmmm, other than having to trim the lip at the vent on the repro kicks...they went in "relatively" (only about 3 cusswords) easily. I trimmed the carpet in first...less chance of nicking the plastic kicks and a tighter fit.

Was I the one lucky SOB??

I got the kick panels installed today and they weren't much trouble at all. Thanks for all the suggestions.
