I recently bought my 68 Firebird and was looking front bucket seats. My car had some funky seats that were not orginal. (After some number crunching I found out I had Deluxe interior)
When calling around local auto dismantlers I was told that 67-68 Camaro seats were the same as the 67-68 Firebirds just different seat upholstery.
The guy who told me this also stated that if I am unable to find Firebird or Camaro seats that I could use a pair of 67-68 Chevy Corvair seats as well. He stated that they are the same "Astro" Seats installed in the 67-68 Camaros (once again with different upholstery) and should fit my Firebird.
Are they the same seats? Should I stick to finding 68 Deluxe Firebird seats locally?
click on my homepage for pictures of my car with 68 deluxe seats. they have been in the car since at least 1975.
the headrests came on all 69's. i was told the tops of 68 and 69 seats are different because of the headrests, and the difference between standard and deluxe seats is in the foam.
i just bought a pair of 69 camaro fronts, and ordered the deluxe upholstery (comfort weave) and foam for the 69's. Paddock told me they will sell me covers made of the comfort weave material. classic, ames and year one told me they only have the simulated comfort weave. i got a sample of both, and there is no comparison. comfort weave is available by the yard, but only paddock has it as a kit.
if paddock doesnt come through, i am bringing the seats to a pro to have genuine comfort weave installed at $1,000 for all four seats.
if you weren't across the country it would be worth it to ship my old seats to you after i install the reupholstered 69's.
