I have a 68 firebird with a th400. The 400 motor has an edelbrock Carb on it. I do not see a kickdown switch next to the Carb. Is the switch located somewhere else? Does the switch work with an aftermatket carburetor? Any info or link would be great thanks.
The original kickdowns are mounted as shown in this picture: Notice the curved tang that's bolted to the throttle shaft. This is what engages the kickdown around 3/4 throttle. If you have a non-stock carburetor, you can buy B&M or Lokar kickdown.
Here is a shot with a Lokar setup installed: Basically a wire pull system that at 3/4 throttle, pulls a wire tripping the switch and sending the signal to the transmission.
Another spot it could be but not on our FGF's is above the accelerator pedal on the linkage. They were there on the GTO's & Chevelles in the late 60's, early 70's. Easy to check but if yours isn't gearing down likely not there. The accel rod pushes the round tube to the left & down in this pic. and actuates the switch.
