A brown wire traces from the fuse box to the turn signal flasher, and becomes a purple wire. The purple wire leads up the column to the turn signal switch. It's the source for the turn signal, and should be hot on ignition.
Brown at the column is for hazards.
Did you install your turn signal flasher unit? Under dash, think it's to the right of the column by the ashtray on a '67 but not positive.
