Since I made the choice to invest most of my potentially billable hours to raising my family, I passed up a lot of income that could have been stashed away for just such an event. But money can be earned, and replaced...childhood cannot. And as I have been self-employed, no worker's comp, no unemployment insurance, no 401K, no safety net. And I would not change a thing...my kids are worth far more to me than money could ever buy.
