whats the purpose of the splined alignment tool clutches come with, align it and tighten it down , then remove for the input shaft?

I have been looking for a tranny jack but cost is pretty high....might try my floor jack with a homemade plate to balence the tranny...all in all these 4spds are pretty small...compared to a auto at least.
