I just did mine today. I used the GM black/aqua trunk coating, which closely matched the original spatter left on the fuel hose shield in the trunk. It's solvent based so it won't wash off if damp.
In addition, I used Duplicolor Truck Bed liner as a base coat. This adds rust protection, scuff protection, noise dampening all in one.
