I went a different route for what runs my sound...
I have the original AM radio plugged in to power but not hooked up to any speakers.
There's an iPod cable in my center console... It runs to a digital modulator that can modify sound levels... which runs to two amps in the trunk - one powers 2 speakers in the center grill and a pair of speakers in the kick panel vents.
The other amp powers a sub in the trunk.
It is completely a no-see'em system that sounds great!
No head unit is necessary to run the iPod.
