Are you using an MSD ignition box? There is a connection on it specifically for a tach.
Tranny: 1) when you installed the convertor, did it engage the "ears" on the tranny shaft? I ruined my pump and convertor because I did not install correctly. 2) is your linkage connected properly? 3) did you add at least a quart of fluid to the convertor prior to install?
