Yes, you remove the bolts connecting the lower arm to the frame then lower the arm until all the pressure is off the spring. I put a chain around the spring first just in case. As Bob says, a length of redi-rod through the arm, spring and frame at the spring pocket can compress for re-install. All other cars I've changed springs on were done by splitting the ball joint, but these work better if you remove the control arm mounting bolts.
