I have seen some gears look good and not stripped, but if you look at them closely from the side you can see the teeth dipped where they come together. The one gear is in the housing that you can remove by taking out the small bolt on the side of the trans where the cable attaches, but the other gear is on the inside of the trans on the output shaft, you will have to remove the tail housing to get to it. Also the gears are color coded for the teeth count , but you can also just count the teeth.
this one is a very simple one, just make sure to actually measure the tires to get the most accurate results.
