I have the original disc/ drum combo on my 68 HO vert, rebuilt the calipers and put in a booster and am totally happy with the set up.
Your car is pretty rare and its none of my business but you might want to think about keeping it as original (or original style ) as much as possible.
You could always sell it and get a vert that has already had motor/ components replaced on it.
