I found a correct set of Rally II wheels for my '69 with front disc brakes. They need to be refinished as they currently have a light etching primer on the front and a little surface rust here and there. I'm looking for any info from someone who may have been in a similar situation. (BTW - I live in CA and my car is at my in-law's in WI. The wheels are here).
I can have the wheels dipped and blasted - that's easy. I was planning on painting them here using the kit from Ames or something similar, but the more I read about it the more it sounds like it just doesn't last.
I live in a pretty small place with no room for anything but a tiny air compressor, so painting them myself here is probably not possible. I can probably paint them at my in-law's place when I go to visit, but between the WI weather and the limited drying time there it might be hit or miss.
I figure that it would be wise to have an epoxy primer applied once they're painted. Anyone have any thoughts on that? I'm having a problem finding anywhere in the area that will do that.
Is painting wheels with a gun fairly straightforward? Is it something that can be done in a couple days with drying time? Or am I looking at a week long process to do all the coats?
