I'm not sure, Jim. First of all, I have GTO Glasses and OHC glasses, and may not always see everything clearly. I believe, though, that you can always get one to line up regardless of whether they are switched, and the other either lines up perfectly or not at all. If not at all, then they must be swapped.
Pioneer - one of our suppliers - lists two separate part numbers for the left and right mount. Now, in thinking about that, it's possible that the fail-safe may be present only on the left mount, but that the holes may in fact not be far enough off to be a bother. However, I believe the holes ARE staggered to help offset the motor to the passenger side to clear the steering gear box.
