There was a great '68 Firebird website that I could have steered you to, but it is gone as of last week.
My '67 Firebird Service Manual supplement has a pretty decent diagram.
I'm pretty sure '67's and '68's had no steering column connection because those were only to lock the shifter when the steering column was locked (went along with the ignition key into the steering column as opposed to the dash)
