It is the bore/stroke ratio that is killing you. If you were to replicate a 326 HO motor, you may be happy. With all that said, it would cost as much (when it is all done) to build a 400 and be done with it.
You can only buy cast pistons for a 326 and they will not hold up well to performance gains. Custom 326 forged? $600 plus.
To be honest, stick with what you have until you save up and collect the parts for a 400 build or replicate a 350 HO with #13 or 16 heads and mill them down to 63-64 cc.. Most of your 326 accessories will bolt on. All you will need is a carb, intake, block and heads. Buy some here, some there. You will be suprised what you collect.
