hi guys. heres my prob. I just bought a 68 firebird 350 h.o. and the dash lights dont come on with the headlights. the blinker indicators and gen light work but the main gauge lights dont. I changed the fuse in the fuse box and still no luck. how often does the printed circuit go bad and can it be soldered back? and my second prob. when I cut off the car the batt drains overnight. how would I find a short in the wires or could it be the voltage reg?

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM BATTERY DRAIN JUST UNHOOK THE NEG CABLEPUT TEST LIGHT INBETWEEN POST AND CABLE IF TEST LIGHT IS LIT START UNPLUGING FUSES ONE AT A TIME TILL THE LIGHT GOES OUT MINE WAS THE CHEAP VOLTAGE REG I GOT AT AUTO ZONE UNPLUG THE ALT TWO WIRE PLUG TOO AND UNPLUG VOLTAGE REG ANY CHECK FOR SLOPPY KEY
AS FOR THE DASH LIGHTS REMOVE THE DASH PANEL AND RIG UP TEST WIRE AND MOVE SOCKETS TILL THEY LIGHT AND PUT A SMALL AMOUNT OF SILICONE NEXT TO EACH LAMP SOCKET TO KEEP IT FROM MOVING WORKED FOR ME
Had the same problem with the voltage drain this summer. I put a amp meter on the battery and it constantly was pulling 2 amps. I disconteced the voltage reg. and it went away. Tossed a ohm meter on the voltage reg and all four pins showed ground. Replaced the volage reg. and it never drained down again. Could also be the headlight switch grounding out. Electrical problems are always fun. Good luck.
Did the car sit or not get driven much? My car sat in a barn for 14 years and just about every switch and electrical connection was oxidized. I just cleaned all the connections I could with some extra fine sandpaper or a pencil eraser(erasers work pretty good). My dash lights didn't work either until I cycled the dimmer switch about 20 times ON and OFF. It's a long and boring process but may be a simple solution.
Thanks for the help guys I will try the dimmer switch trick this morning. the car did sit for a while in a feild in conn, so I may be looking at some oxidation issues then.
