Does anybody know if there is a 400 emblem that I can use in place of the 350 emblem on a stock 69 Firebird hood? I would like to find one that uses the same holes in the hood. Help!

Someone on e-bay has 455, 428, 421 hood emblems for firebirds. You could blow someone's mind at a car show and tell them your 67 bird has the "rare" 455 option.

Vettejohn, maybe contact that guy and see what kind of mounting holes his 400 emblems have. You should consider changing your name to "Birdjohn".

The holes for 350 emblem are differently placed compared to the 400 emblem holes, you`d need to re-drill the holes and I`m not sure how/ if the old would be covered....unless you weld in and grind down, like if you are re painting it...

I tried this myself, installing the 400 emblems on a 350 hood. The holes do not line up, and if I drilled new holes, the 400 emblem would not cover the 350 holes. The easy way to fix the problem is buy a new 400 hood...and paint the whole car! wink

It ain't necesarily so.........I have seen two different types of 350 hood numbers for the FGF 350. My 350 HO has the numbers in a "blown-back" position (slant)look to them. They are very thick metal casts. Most of the ones I see as repros are in a more "straight up" numbers position, and seem thinner. That difference alone will change the hole alignment. cool

"Nash", the repros 'might' be thinner but I doubt it, but the slant should be the same , front to back....the 400`s would also have a different 'tilt'= thinner, because of them sitting on the scoop bulge...350 `s are thicker to push the tilt up , since that hood is 'flatter'...but the pins/studs that gets speed nuts on the back are differently located on the 400 and the 350 (possibly just because of the numbers themselves are different) and 400 are also not even opposite...they are not a reversed/'reflection' of them selves in other words, holes are different from left side to right side...dont remember if 350 emblems are 'same' on both sides.. wink

Bjorn knows the bones on the carcas--huh? The 455 option would be a hard sell. (At shows, people would say, "Wow! It has a 12 bolt! Is it posi?" I just say "Yep!" and don't push my luck with an elaboration about the "12 bolt option.")

I'm probally going to upgrade to a 455, and they make 455 emblems that fit the 400 holes. Even so, I'll keep the 400 badges, and I'll lie like hell, swearing it's a 400. If you read up some, you'll see that lying and cheating has been a family tradition in Pontiac family, so why become honest and violate the brethern's code?
