I bought a 69 Mach 1 428 R code Cobra Jet !!! I've been on the down hill side of of finishing my 68 Convt and had been thinking about a Mach 1 one I ran into a guy selling a all original car that had been sitting for 18 years ! The story is the original owner bought the car in 69 and drove it until about 1978 when he hit a dog and decided to park it for awile, time passed and he went to start it and it was unable to about 7 yrs ago, he ran into medical problems and it forced him to sell it to the 2nd owner. This guy bought it and knew notheing about cars so it sat at his place, he collected some NOS parts for it and ran into some tight financial times as well. In addition the the complete car I also received the following: NOS tail panel, NOS hood moulding, NOS tach, NOS pop open fuel cap,Build sheet,Original 69 Title, Marti Report (Fords version of PHS docs) Shaker hood, Driver fender.

I changed the oil/filter,rebuilt the Holly carb installed a set of plugs, wires, cap and Pertronix on it ran the pump to good fuel and got it running...

Here are a couple of pics of after I drove all night and loaded it up.
Back to Georgia I drove.. The car was about 30 miles South of the Virgina line..

You dog. I am totally jealous. And an "R" code to boot.

I used to draw pictures of '69 Mach 1's when I was a teenager. My 1st car was a '70 351 Cleveland 4V fastback

I guess I go back witht he GulfStream Aqua, I'll maybe add the magnum wheels and spoilers. It will look like this when finished. The stripe is Black/Gold but refelects when flashes hit it so that's why it looks white.

It had about 2 lbs of shells in the trunk. The interior (less carpet) is almost perfect just needs a complete cleaning. The car has very little rust in a couple spots on the floor pans and down low on the quarters behind the rear wheels. The 428 was the sweet icing on the cake. I just wish it was a 4 speed but I didn't want to be choosey.. By the way The 2nd owner only paid $6k for the car..

Wow, depending what you paid that's almost as good of a find as the guy that paid $20K for the RAIII 4-Speed TA.

Agreed, and since it's not a 4 speed I'd be tempted to try a "clean and flip" like the T/A guy did.
Those were my favorite era Mustangs, but the Auto would hurt it as a keeper for me.
Restored it would be a very nice car, but how much will you have in it?

I like the 69 Mach 1's, very cool cars! I've been posting old road tests out on YouTube. Here's one that will make you want to get that Mach 1 up and running ASAP. smile

Very cool indeed! I think there are quite a few here who are "Car Guy's" in general, as long as it's on wheels were into it! We all love the hunt, and dreaming of the possibilities... and this car has a LOT of potential! Congratulations! Great find... right time and right place! Are you a member of the VMF yet? (Vintage Mustang Forums) Nothing like this site, but a good national site with local area listings as well...

Keep us posted!

Brett!

Agreed Brett, although I cut my teeth on Chevy, I have respect for some blue oval products. I'd still like to get my hands on a '67 Merc Cougar.

Very nice acquisition Mike, I love the color!

The shells were accorns, almonds, wallnuts, It looks as if there were a few chipmonks stashing them away in the frame rails and trunk..

I actually saw the car on the VMF website about 2 hrs after the owner posted it for sale. I had to act fast !! I had only been on looking for about 1 month..

The Ford stuff seems a bit strange to me only because this is my first one. I'm soo much more comfortable with Pontiacs..

I think the guy could have gotten quite a bit more for it and I think realized it after his phone would not stop ringing..Since he was nice enough to hold semi local buyers of as I was enroute to buy it I told him if I ever wanted had to sell it I would give him first crack at it.

I have not found a Form mustang forum to be anything like what we have here, you would think thay would be VERY busy and lots of help, maybe it just because I'm so used to FGF and PY activness.

Never checked but I always wondered how our little spot on the net compared to the rest.

Congratulations on your new car.

Since your Mustang had critters using it as a storehouse, do a visual inspection of all the wiring. The little buggers love to chew wires.

One would think there would be a plethora of web sites dedicated to Mustangs, gen specific at that. I bet they wont be as good as this one. smile
