I posed this question to my local pontiac car club, and they were unsure of the answer... Granted, they were mostly GTO people.
Are the remote drivers side mirrors for the 69 Firebird the same as the other GM/Pontiac remote mirrors?
Im looking for a 69 drivers side remote mirror for my vert, and not finding much.
But Ive seen GTO, Lemans, Grand Prix, etc..69-mids 70's remote mirrors. Are they the same? (Im not talking bullet mirrors, Im referring to the rectangular chrome remote mirrors.)
Other then the true 69 drivers side remote mirror, are there any other years, Pontiac, GM, etc, that are exactly the same as the 69 firebird remote mirror?
A part # is cast on the inside of the base. One would have to cross reference that number to find out. It's been a while, but I bought a remote mirror off eBay. I can't recall if the part # on the base was for GTO or 'bird. I think it's the same, but the cable length is longer.
Vikki shared some pics of her 69 mirror with me a while back so that I could compare to what I had bought off Ebay. Turns out I wanted a 68 mirror but ended up buying what turned out being a 69 GTO mirror.
I was young.
The 69 FB and GTO mirror are the same in all respects except the shape of the control knob, bezel and cable length.
With Vikki's permission, I could share her pics so to compare to the pics of the 69 GTO mirror I have.
By the way, there are some mirror parts on Ebay right now that are for a 69 GTO. The oval bezel in the middle is correct for the GTO. This isn't a Firebird mirror - the knob, bezel and cable are wrong.
I bet there are a few members here that just smile at the fact that I always seem to jump on the remote mirror questions. I did SOOO much research on these things when I tried to find which part number was right for my 68 vs what was being sold CLAIMING to be for a 68. My PHS docs say mine originally came with a remote mirror that wasn't there when I bought the car. I've since been trying to find an original one that I can afford.

That's a late 68 mirror, according to the part number on the box. The 69 FIrebird remote looks like this (pics courtesy of Vikki):
Here's a pic of the 69 GTO mirror I have. Notice the top of the base where the screw is looks slightly different. As well, the control knob is a different shape (the GTO knob is more cone-shaped) and the bezel (mine is like this) is elliptical like the one pictured in the last pic.
