America, with a record number of voters, elected our 44th president, with an overwhelming 7 million vote majority. The popular vote, in itself, shows that America is moving in the right direction and away from division. I would like to thank my fellow Americans who voted and put the best candidate for our country in office. And I would like to thank my fellow Michiganders for passing the two medical proposals for medical marijuana and stem cell research making Michigan the 13 state for this and the first in the midwest. WHAT A WONDERFUL TIME IN HISTORY TO BE ALIVE TO EXPERIENCE IT!

I hope our new Pres will at least offer an olive branch to good old Joe the Plumber and give him a job keeping the toilets up & running at the White House.

In four to eight years everyone will be screaming about 'change' again!
It never seems to matter who is in the Whitehouse.

A friend of mine just sent me this. I thought it was cute.
While walking down the street one day a US senator is tragically hit by a truck and dies. His soul arrives in heaven and is met by St. Peter at the entrance.
"Welcome to heaven," says St. Peter. "Before you settle in, it seems there is a problem. We seldom see a high official around these parts, you see, so we're not sure what to do with you."
"No problem, just let me in," says the man.
"Well, I'd like to but I have orders from higher up. What we'll do is have you spend one day in hell and one in heaven. Then you can choose where to spend eternity."
"Really, I've made up my mind. I want to be in heaven," says the senator.
"I'm sorry but we have our rules."
And with that, St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell.
The doors open and he finds himself in the middle of a green golf course. In the distance is a club and standing in front of it are all his friends and other politicians who had worked with him. Everyone is very happy and in evening dress. They run to greet him, shake his hand, and reminisce about the good times they had while getting rich at expense of other people.
They play a friendly game of golf and then dine on lobster, caviar and champagne. Also present is the devil, who really is a very friendly guy who has a good time dancing and telling jokes.
They are having such a good time that, before he realizes it, it is time to go. Everyone gives him a hearty farewell and waves while the elevator rises.
The elevator goes up, up, up and the door reopens on heaven where St. Peter is waiting for him. "Now it's time to visit heaven."
So, the head of state joining a group of contented souls moving from cloud to cloud, playing the harp and singing. While nothing exciting happened, he did have a good time and, before he realizes it, the 24 hours have gone by and St. Peter returns.
"Well then, you've spent a day in hell and another in heaven. Now choose your eternity."
The senator reflects for a minute, then the senator answers:
"Well, I would never have said it before, I mean heaven has been delightful, but I think I would be better off in hell."
So St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell.
Now the doors of the elevator open and he's in the middle of a barren land covered with waste and garbage. He sees all his friends, dressed in rags, picking up the trash and putting it in black bags. The devil comes over to him and puts his arm around his shoulder.
"I don't understand," stammers the senator. "Yesterday I was here and there was a golf course and club, and we ate lobster and caviar, drank champagne, and danced and had a great time. Now all there is a wasteland full of garbage and my friends look miserable. What happened?"
The devil looks at him, smiles and says, "Yesterday we were campaigning......
Today you voted"

I'll offer the new president more respect than was bestowed on President Bush by his critics. I will ALWAYS respect the office of the president and show Obama respect that he deserves as president. I will disagree with him when I feel it is appropriate. This is where I will differ from the leftists and their unbridled hate spewing toward Bush. There is no hate like liberal hate. I still say he is a Marxist and goes against everything this country was founded on. I can only hope I am wrong, keeps his extremist political views to himself and leads more from the center. But if I am right, we are in serious trouble with the Dems being handed the House, Senate, White House and the Supreme Court. I expect 3 to retire the day after he is sworn in.

Again I say lets give the guy a chance.
Do you guys realize that Joe the plumber wasn't even a licensed plumber and the business he was talking about buying didn't even gross 250,000 a year and would have benefited better under obamas tax plan.

"Joe the Plumber" was some poor schmuck who asked a perfectly valid question and had his [censored] handed to him on a platter by the media.
It's all about headlines. They found the "average Joe", quite literally, and tore him to pieces. The media could have held the higher standard and reported the question and the candidate responses, but no.....
And Obama's plan was a campaign speech. Wait until it is fully developed. I am sure that disclaimers such as "the extent of the problems were not revealed until I was elected" or some other B.S.

I'm not a licensed mechanic, yet I built a car.
I am not a licensed electrician, yet I have wired homes, conveyor system, cars, etc.
I am not a licensed plumber but can fix just about anything plumbing related.
Being a licensed almost anything these days means very little to me.
And the business did not NET $250,000 a year. And it does not mean it could not in very short order with hard work.

Thanks, Tim. I've been saying the same thing for years.
I am a licensed residential builder, but ply the trade as a hobby (historic preservation projects).
I am an uncertified network administrator with 20+ years experience, and make my living at it.
And if I chose to, I could sit and pass at least 3 of the ASE or Michigan mechanic cert tests, and a few I-CAR. But I do this for fun.
Does any of this matter? Not in the least. My business will gross about $900K this year, about half of what we did in the best years. But we are doing it with three people instead of six, and on thin margins. I cannot see how a tax change will help me keep the shop open. It's hard enough as it is.
I was not going to post this afternoon, as while I was at work I learned that a friend (and former employee) of mine died suddenly. He has a wife and 3 young children. I think I've already said most of what concerns me most, and I hope my fears are overblown. But I don't have a whole lot of trust going here, based on what I have read and seen and heard.

Doug (my longtime friend),
Either you haven't done any real independent research of your own over the past year on Obama, or you are inadvertently showing your true colors. And thats okay.
I say, Be honest and proud about who you voted for and why. But don't play your friends here. If you decided Obama was the right answer for you then be confident with that decision. Just understand and accept that many of us did not come to that conclusion.
We are not all from the same mold, or have the same personal situations or backgrounds.

It was interesting to see the media tearing down Joe the Plumber...in 48 Hours we knew more about him ,than we still do about Obama....but, thats the "unbiased" mdeia for you...a real eye opener... to tear a "joe blow" guy apart for asking a legit question ,that the media didnt like.....
"freedom of the press" has gone too far. imho

Yeah, Joe the plumber. Here is a guy who actually uses his middle name and ovsiouls proud of it. How about we use our new President's middle name going forward. President Hussein, yeah real nice huh?
Joe the plumber in my mind is the epidomy of the avg. Joe. Poeple are saying the GOP planned that whole thing. I say if the GOP were that smart they would have never let a POS like President Hussein win this election. Let's not give them more credit than they deserve.
Here was a guy who was outside being a good father and playing catch football with his son. Osama approaches him looking for the perfect photo op and the absolute worst unfolds.
The only thing about Joe the plumber that smoke my a$$ is the fact that it took Joe the plumber to reveil the real Osama the turd!
Anyone who foucuses on Joe the plumber not paying taxes, not having a license, collecting welfare, not really named Joe etc. instead of looking into Osama's past is the lowest form of crap in this country. That is my opinion and I approve it 100%...

Anyone who foucuses on Joe the plumber not paying taxes, not having a license, collecting welfare, not really named Joe etc. instead of looking into Osama's past is the lowest form of crap in this country. Within 24 hours the media had dug up and published everything but Joe's latest colonoscopy results. Yet we still have not seen Comrade Zero's birth certificate, medical records, passports, college records, or adoption records. The media is silent. High probability proof is available that Obama's book Dreams of MY Father was ghostwritten by English professor terrorist friend ("just a neighbor") William Ayers. The media is silent. High probability proof is available that the COLB posted on Obama's website if a forgery. The media is silent. Obama campaigned and supported a Kenyan thug for President (Odinga). His election loss caused his thugs to murder over 1,000 people (mostly Christians) in that country. The media is silent. Several lawsuits are pending in several states challenging Obama's eligibility to be POTUS as defined in the Constitution. The media is silent. Obama participated in a party honoring an anti-Israel Palestinian activist. The LA Times has a video tape of the party. They refused to release it. The media is silent. Here's some interesting media bias information for this campaign: http://www.journalism.org/node/13436

Doug, a few pals here pointed out that you may take my post wrong. I meant to anyone who voted for Barack Osama Bama, just be honest and willing to explain to some degree why.
Did not mean to pick or poke at you specifically.
Can someone run spell-check for me? I'm pooped.

Wow, that's disgusting. Can you imagine the media if Condi did something even remotely close to this? The media better be all over this in the next few days. edit: with a little more research, I will wait a few days for clarity on this issue. http://illinoisreview.typepad.com/illinoisreview/2008/11/emanuel-pay-pro.html

Nash, after reading your post I didn't know where you were coming from ? I voted for Obama because he pro labor, backs unions the middle class and seems to be someone with new ideas.
And to prevent 30 plus pages of discussion I'll leave it at that.
