Hey everybody, I am about to purchase some aftermarket wheel well and rocker molding for my '67 Firebird. It sounds like the repro rocker moldings that are produced are a great fit according to Ames, but they are quick to say the wheel well moldings are hit or miss. I plan to buy my molding from Ames, but does anyone know where the best place to buy the wheel well moldings would be? It should also be noted that new aftermarket quarter skins were just put on the car. Any advice on where to get the moldings would be greatly appreciated! Thanks. Winston
The CI ones are OK, just need to carefully start from the one end and roll and screw as you go to get it on straight. Had to redrill some of the holes tho as they did not match. (see the thread Wouter linked)
I had the same experience as David with the ones from Classic. I had to drill a couple new holes in the wheel wells to match up with the moldings. Start from the rocker end first and work your way around.
OK, I have another question regarding the wheel well trim. I was told by someone locally that the wheel well molding on the Firebird and Camaro are different. I noticed that NPD has the same order # for Firebird and Camaro. Can a Firebird guru on here let me know if they are in fact the same, or should I order from Ames and know that I'll be getting Firebird stuff? Thanks much!!
They are different due to the rocker trim being different. There was a thread awhile back about this.
If Ames sells one only for Firebirds, I'd go with that. But it is possible Ames sells the same one as the others and just doesn't list the Camaro.
Maybe someone who has bought theirs from Ames can fill us in.
Overall in general, My PO is that Ames has the best stuff for 'birds, but their prices aren't always the best.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure. The RS camaro has a taller rocker I believe and the trim does not come down far enough on the rear. Ask me how I know, any one want a set?...cheap... ..... The other camaro models use the same as the Bird...
