I am debating on a new color for the bird, it is hugger orange now but that is more of a camaro color. I have 2 things in mind, 1 a metallic blue 2 original verdoro green. I was wondering if anyone out there has VERY good pic of there car in verdoro green they can send me as I have never seen the color very well. I have only seen small spots on my car where it still trys to shine thru.
Maybe someday I will get this thing off the road to do a full restoration

So I'm claiming it) Old projects, gone but not forgotten: 1967 FB 400, original CA car. After 22 years of work, trashed by the guy who was supposed to paint it. I had to sell it. 1980 Turbo Trans Am 1970 Mustang fastback, 351C 4Bbl, auto 1988 Mustang GT, 5 speed 1983 F-150 4x4, built 302 1994 Chevy K2500 HD 4x4, 454 TBI
yeah, the Chevy "hugger orange" was called "carousel red" on 69 birds....
In my taste a Verdoro green is very nice , either w parchment or black interior...
I`ll send you a site that has just about all colors on it...but need your email address so I can attach it ., maybe I`ll try to attach it to 'private message'?If you dont get it , send me your email,, mine is bsefeldt@mhinc.com
I have always like the color green. The small pices I can see on my car that are still green looks like it has a bit of metallic in it is this correct?

Some people really hate that Verdoro Green, but when it is not faded out it really looks good, IMHO. Verdoro Green with a black vinyl roof is a sweet combination. Couple it with a pearl/parchment or black interior and I'm hooked!
Paint the car whatever color YOU want, besides, you are the person who owns it, do what you want to the car, just don't put a chevy engine in it (yuck!)!
Don't worry this bird will never see a cevy motor in it. I am realy thinking of going with the verdoro green but need to see it in person an a bird. The metallic blue was to make the wife happy as it is her favorate color. Maybe I will see a green bird at a show somewhere.

this is going to sound boring, but I think white is an awesome color for a 69 bird because it has the black gasket on the front nose piece. white also looks great if you are running ralley II's with white lettered tires. it can work with just about any color interior too!
Yes those lovely black gaskets, it seems every 69 bird I have had someone has just painted right over them including the one I have now. Anyone know how to remove paint without destroyiny the black rubber cushions?

firebirdcrzy: Remove the gaskets. Of course, you have to take the plastic peices off. You don't have to pull the nose peice to remove them. Don't qoute me on this, but if I recall corectly, you must pull the bumper and the headlight buckets. And I think that you can get the outar corner by snatching the gasket back.
After you get them off, gently scrape whatever paint you can with a sharp exacto knife or razor blade. (This is something that takes quite a lot of time. When I did it, replacement parts weren't available. Also, I'd stay away from thinner as a cleaner.)
If the paint is impregnated into the rubber, or you cannot scrape it, you can wet sand it out with #220. Any damage you do while scraping, you can sand it out too. I don't remember what grit wet paper I used for the final sanding, but I think it was #600. Then again, I may have used #1000 or #1200
You can also repair the rubber too with black silicone. Clean the dog crap out out of the part with detergent. Next, make a dam as a holder for the area. Squirt some silicone into the area, making sure that you don't overlap onto the undamaged rubber. Take some hock (hock works wonders on silicone) on your finger and mold the silicone to the correct shape..
Tip: make your mold/dam so that it protrudes past the back line of the gasket. That way, you can cut the edge flush with the gasket. You cannot overlap the silicone (well, I guess you can overlap it if you're not worried about cosmetic appearnce) onto the undamged area. Otherwise, it will have a reapaired appearnce.
You cannot trim/shape the silicone without it being an obvious repair, so you may have to redo it a few times. If so, remove and try again before the silicone sets up.
Ah! Back again--short term memory loss! Must be overexposure to solvents. Shoot me an email address and I'll send you a picture of my 9 wearing 1987 Cadillac STS metallic red. It's not the best picture, but it will help give you decide. Then again, maybe it will make the decision harder.
I know this is gonna sound crazy but go on e-bay and check in the diecast section under Lane and there they have a 68' in verdero green. i have two of these cars and the colors are pretty close to me so the verdero green one should be too.just thought it may give you a better idea of the colour plus it has a vinyl top too like someone else mentioned would look good with one.or go to a hobby shop that carries them and ask to see one? anyways just trying to help the cause! goodluck. any firstgen looks good in any color!

If you have some Firebird buddies, get a color scheme going , my closest two bird buddies have white and blue cars, so when we pull in together , its red, white and blue , pretty neat!
and when I cleaned my rubber gaskets that previously were painted body color , I had them sand blasted, worked like a charm...
pretty hard rubber, you can prob. stick your finger in under one at the edge of the hood and pull , feel it , its very solid.... of course, I did mine in a sand blasting cabt , not using the big industrial blaster!
