Wondered if anyone has new conv. header chome molding and how the aftermarket fits. Our original molding is pitted and flaking. $99 for aftermarket or is it worth to rechrome ours?

Thanks!

I bought the new repop....and threw the old rusty ones out before I installed the new....shouldnt have....repops doesnt have the same fit!...NEVER THROW THE OLD STUFF OUT ,AT LEAST NOT UNTIL YOU TRY THE FIT OF REPOPS! (I did that same mistake with the 69 dash)...

....you live and learn....

use the old ,get them redone!

Ok,
You guys talked me into it. Took the headers down to Denver Bumper yesterday. Aboout 3 weeks and will be $90. Still cheaper than buying new. I'll post before and after pics. Decided we liked the chrome finish rather than the satin (which would be correct for 68).

I had mine done with the nickel plating only, and slightly brushed, it gave the satin look.

Not a great picture, was from when I was piecing it all together, but you get the idea...

You made the right choice!

I know now this project wont be over soon. Once we get it on the road we'll want to go back and fix up little things here and there. We have decent driver bumpers (front & back) but have scratches, a few dings and show there age. Can you beleive the chome shop wants $365 each to rechrome!!? No price variance for front or back, same cost. This place does the chrome dip process, not electroplate. Maybe that's the reason for the high cost. Heck, we could get new repops for the cost of one bumper.

Hey Craig,
Think I'll just give you our car for your birthday.... wait.. you already have a 68 vert... shucks... now I'll have to think of something else wink

We hope to post update photos next week when we get it back from the painter. The quarters and tail panel were replaced and the car is in primer. Think they shoot it on Monday. Should have it back next weekend. We are very anxious as it will be one year on the 17th since we started the project.
I'll start a new thread with the updates as soon as we get it.
Thanks for expressing interest in seeing our car smile

Glad you are happy with the rechrome, I sure was...

I had my rear rechromed at a cost of $200, and they did a great job. Cost was a bit higher than a repop, but the weight and quality is far better.

I was lucky, my original front was in four star+ shape, no crazing, just needed a good buff n polish and its great.

Those chrome prices are pretty darn good IMO if the finish is as good as the shine.
