I've see a few if I go to some car shows. Otherwise I rarely see them at all just out in public rolling down the street. I live in LA, so it is a pretty popular spot for old cars. Out in CA, you have a house with a white picket fence, 2.2 kids and a muscle car in the garage.
The last time I saw a 1st Gen. Firebird on the street was about a year ago. I just never see them. Is it the area in which I live? Do some of you in other parts of the country or world see 1st gens more frequently?
If you see one on the road or hidden on the side of someones house snap a pic and post.
My brother lives in Long Beach and there is a '68 'Bird parked on the street 2 blocks away.

Last week I took my wife for her pyhsical therapy. Place is massive with a huge parking lot. I am driving the bird looking for a spot to park, what do you know, the only empty spot is right next to a 67 vert. The car was almost perfect on the exterior.
Then last w/e we went to a Pontiac show and there were 9 FGF. Being somewhat of a purist I was very disappointed as our car was the closest to stock as the others were all heavily modified, missing parts & pieces, had several Camaro parts on them such as front & rear spoilers, consoles, even interiors etc. Very disappointing. What's even more so is the fact that they lumped all FGF together mod/stock.
I never mind losing at a show but to lose to a FGF with Camaro interior or a resto mod is hard to swallow. I guess I need to somehow get past this purist streak in me and accept these FGF.
when we in HALF go cruising people get to see 6 to 10 in a row...! I havent seen any besides ours in quite some time, and every time we see one we try to recruite...most every time succesfully... but I KNOW there are people out the that gets to see ours on a regular basis....
a short funny story. last year on our annual cruise to Corpus Christi, we took a side street to the beach for some nice shots...I may even post some here... as we were parked ,taking pics here comes a guy with a trailer down that street...on thetrailer is a 67 400 coupe!!
he had his lifes shock..pulling down that street for a rest ,thinking he ha the only Bird inntexas (just about) he gets to see a flock of 8! He got recruited , said he would join us ,but we havent heard from him...it was his mothers car, he picked it up in Corpus and was bringing it back to San Antonio...for restoration...
Last summer, about once a week when driving home from work, a red/white '67 vert passed me on the highway going the opposite direction. The last few times I slowed down and flashed my headlights, but he never stopped. (its 55 MPH through there, and no place to pull off)
Of course the handful of times I was driving my 'bird home from work, I never saw him.
So there is at least one around my area.
I have also seen a gold '68 Camaro coupe and a white '68 RS 'vert around a few times. I crossed paths with the RS once while driving my 'bird on a busy street and he almost hit another car while rubbernecking.
I will have to be more ready with a camera this summer.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure. this one might be a bit of a reach but I know with google earth you can put a push pin for a location. I wonder if there is a way to create an overlay or layering program that shows push pins for locations of registered members on here. Granted it dosent need to exact locations (no need to let thieves exactly where it is parked!) but it would be neat to see where the groupings of bird are....and which ones are all out in the country by themselves.
I know on my wifes classmates.com it kinda shows the same thing, you can look at the counrty as a whole, and zoom right down to the lil towns.
I wonder how many owners live less than a day away and would never know they could meet up for a cruise.
Might be useful for locales that dont have firebird clubs

I just Googled google earth (say that 10 times fast)and it is a possiblity....but the computer talk got way over my head real fast. Might be something the more computer savvy on our sight might toy with. It seems that you could also make it so that when you mouse over a push pin you can see an image.
Hummmm....I'll try the old Tom Sawyer approach to painting fences...."Bet someone out there cant figure it out and make it work"....lol
I have not seen a FGF the 12 years I have lived in Dickinson. I saw a very nice '68 GTO and a '68(?)Camaro in town. Quite a few muscle cars at the yearly drag contest but many travel from other towns. I don't recall seeing a FGF there either. Bismarck has at least 5 FGF that I know of. I only saw one '67, one '68 fiberglass racer, and three '69s for sale on BisMan classifieds in the last year. I have been checking the ND Craigslist and nothing listed there. Car shows (or going to car shows) are the only time I recall seeing FGF in Bismarck.
I like that Google earth idea. That would be really cool to have the FGFs pinpointed and see where they actually are. The idea of a pop up pic would be nice. If I have time, I will look into how Google Earth works with creating your own map. Anyone else want to check into it, please feel free to do so. I'm not sure how much time I would have to do that.

if not in your own bird , most people will think 1) he flickered his lights at me , because he ikes the car 2)He thinks Im` going too fast, idiot! 3) maybe cops up ahead?
I chased down a bird 5,6 years ago, that I saw at a stoplight in an interesction...honking waving etc...he thought I was nuts...but after he stopped , we spoke...he understood, funny thing is that when looking over his car it looked familiar... it was the car the guy that sold it to him ,sold it from under me! I missed that car by 2 days...! he had MY CAR! told him so...its was funny...
Pretty much what I thought too. Flashing headlights meant either you didn't have your headlights on or a cop is ahead.
Another thing I heard is when a semi is passing and clear to get over in your lane, flash your headlights so he knows. It must be true because I have done that and the drivers have flashed their rig lights back at me.

I know of only one FGF in my area. A beautiful triple black '67 or '68. I'm not sure of the year because he was leaving the gas station as I was pulling in last summer (not in my Firebird at the time). The car was throaty and very straight. I hope I can run into him again. I have not seen any besides that one in the 14+ years I have lived in my home.
He is the reason I bought my Firebird instead of the Camaro of which I have had a few.
On the Google Earth map, if nobody wants their address marked, giving the address of a local gas station would be good.
39°55'56.86, 83°08'40.91 At the time of the satellite image, I had my '95 Formula and K1500. The main thoroughfare Norton Rd., is now five lanes. Hope they update the image before I sell the cammer.
The large regional show in my area, Atlantic National (1,400+ vehicles) had only 2 FGF. A really clean 67 six and an original 68 400. Got to talk to the owner of the 400 and get a good look at the all the options (see which ones I'm missing). Way too many cameros 200+. Made me appreciate the firebird more.
I see about 6-8 at the pontiac show (one from Washington State).
I pulled on to the freeway last year and lo and behold, a red/white int 67 vert was just going by...and of course I shifted hard up to 70 and caught up with him, and we both pulled over at the next off ramp to jaw a bit.
Also saw a nice white/red 68 vert going the other way near my house, with THREE cougars in it. They waved as they went by and pulled in to the coin wash...unfortunately I had my daughter with me or I would have made a fast u-turn
Other than that I have seen 5-6 Camaros, one was a red/black vert like mine, and was in front of me doing the beach cruise...must have looked good from the curb, a Cramaro and a Bird in identical livery driving by!
Not a lot of Birds here. There is a Le Mans vert though in Amsterdam, with a Blazer interior and engine, that drives around. I posted pics her once.
When I cruise through the city, I get some reactions. One guy almost cut me off:"Hey man, is that a GTO?! SWEET!".
I did find about 11 dutch FGF owners though, through several websites. I e-mailed them for a while, to arrenge a cruise of all FGF's here in Holland. Some enthusiastic responses, but haven't come to it yet. Should see if I can schedule it in this summer...
oh yeah...ok...we did...forgot about it....you mean the "frapper map"? ..we did that with the HALF group too, also the PYers did...I`m not sure if ours got saved or not , think the PY one is a "sticky"
I searched, "search" only referred me back to this post abv... it was probably here in ramblings , then it got old, deleted...its got to be moved to an area where its not deleted....like ...??? ... looked there really isnt a good section...might be something for Geoff to decide on...I`ll let him know...
Occasionally I'll see a few FGF's around here, but more Camaros than Firebirds. (I can usually tell there's a car show in the area, that's when I see them.) I saw a really nice red 69 vert. last year before I had mine driving.
-=>Lee<=- Due to budget constraints the "light at the end of the tunnel" has been turned off!
at the poci shows here there are only one or 2 fgf out of 200 pontiacs
yesterday at Vintage Park... I couldnt go but we in HALF were represented anyway ...and the "trailer queen", I have no clue to who she is (someone else took these pics) , but thought she made a nice addition to the pics....LOL
Wow here is a good one. Earlier today I realized my multi meter was toast. So I figured why not take a ride to Harbor Freight in Daytona. So I did just that. After making my purchase I asked the wife and son if they wanted to take a drive on the beach. After cruising for several miles and watching, well, the ocean, what do we happen to come upon! Much to my surprise: What are the chances? I waited for almost an hour and the owner never came back to his/her car. In addition we had about 25 college kids surround the car. I told them they were welcome to sit in the car and take pics. Little did I know that ALL of them did just that. LOL They were a great group of kids and all the girls were not very cute and should not have been wearing bikinis!
That car was very nice shape. However, she was getting pretty rough around the bottom edges all the way around. The car was an auto, fold down rear seat w/ speakers installed in it (I've never seen anyone do that before but it looked like a half decent install). The car also has very large newer leather bucket seats. I couldn't get a decent pic of the interior as the windows were up and sun was blazing. All in all a very decent car. I'm guessing this is not anyone from this site or is it?
Those pics are posted on my photobucket site as well in a very large high resolution format...
