I guess they either wanted to crank them out before they were told they couldn't build them or figured they would mass produce them and make some quick money (unlike Chrysler who still trys to sell the challenger at MSRP)

Glad to see their gearing up:

Wish they would do a Trans Am/Firebird

I just wonder if this is GM's "farewell" model.

As we discussed here the pre-order period got extended because they received 1/3 of the orders they were hoping for. Not a good sign.

That plant is about a 10 minute drive from my house. Going to drive by later to see if I can spot them in the lot.

They tried real hard not to sell me a Challenger at our local dealer. They succeeded. I mean how hard was it, I asked how much for this car out the door? Plus tax of course and all they wanted was to get me in the room and discuss it. They had to qualify me was their reason. I said give me a price first then we'll see... I just gave up and purchased a 2005 GTO saved thousands and this is the only car my wife said I don't have buyers remorse on... She's right it's an awesome vehicle...

I am afraid/ glad GM is doomed in it's current form.

Afraid because a lot more people are going to be without jobs in the near future when they are forced to declare bankruptcy. It's going to happen.

Glad as they will be a much leaner, more agile company in the future. I see other lines completely disappearing and only a couple of cores staying around. As we already know, Olds, GMC and Saturn are done. I expect Saab and Hummer to disappear too unless a miracle buyer comes along very soon. Pontiac and Buick are also on the ropes. From what I understand, Buick sells well in China and that may be it's savior. (It's easier for them to pronounce of all things!)

It may make sense just to take all of the best selling car names and put them under one company, not just one umbrella. I know this is heresy to many here, but it may be the only way to keep GM alive at all.

I really do think the Volt will be the savior of the company if they can just get it to market fast enough and if they get it right. If GM is serious about keeping Pontiac as a performance line, they should shift the Volt under the Pontiac logo as that is what it will really be when it first comes out. One of the very few items under the Obama porkulous plan that I do like is the monies for an electrical grid upgrade. This will help GM in the long run to make operating the Volt much cheaper than a gasoline counterpart.

OK, now I am rambling...

So a couple of comments:

1. Why are they all sitting there and not out improving the economy by being sold?

2. Is it just me, or do they look pretty bland without any kind of graphics?

3. They still need a convertible version to blow my hair back.

I'll keep working on my '67 instead. wink

Who captured them? The Klingons? I have never heard that term before.

My 1967 Firebird was a CTF car, if you could refer the term now used, back then.

I saw a preproduction 2010 base Camaro at the Detroit airport on Monday. It was on display in the GM store. It was very plain with no stripes or anything. It had silver paint and a two tone gray interior. What struck me about it is that it looked terrific. It had the 300 hp V6 and a 6 speed manual. The body lines were a little busier than the original, but pleasing anyway. It was trimmed out well with chrome and black accents and nice touches in all the right places. The hood looks like a cheesy aftermarket cowl induction hood, which was a little surprising on a base car. I think they did just as good of a styling job as Ford did with the current Mustang, and as Chrysler did with the Challenger. It's a great time to buy a pony car.

By the way. I got a letter from Saturn last week. They claim that they will be spun off from GM and will market other manufacturers cars under the Saturn Brand. My wife drives an Outlook so we're on their mailing list.

I saw that (or a clone) Camaro last fall at the cider mill. It was equipped with datalogging gear, and looked very clean, contemporary, and classic at once.

And the V6 sounded pretty healthy too, but not like the V8 of course.

There are two silver Camaros on the roads here around town...one a plain silver V-6, the other with a cowl induction hood and some accent tape. Either way, it's a fine looking car.

Only way to improve would be to offer an equally fine looking high powered convertible. Or at least classic Camaro T-tops...
