At a local car show this week an unknown who to know all was determined to find flaws in my 67. He assured me that I had my headlights mixed up and the high beams should run on the outside and low beams on the inside. I looked at the wiring diagram and it said the opposite BUT another diagram showed he was correct. Who is right? Also, on a 67 vin code tag, is the tag painted the color of the car or is it bare metal? Thanks guys!

Low beams should be outside. Highs inner. Tag was bare metal on our 67 parts car

I thought the metal cans behind the bulbs match up with molded tabs on the headlights that prevent you from mixing them up?
But that's OK. I laughed to myself at my last car show at a fellow '67 FB owner who had reversed the front turn signals.
I thought it was pretty obvious how they SHOULD fit, but...

I think it is DOT regulations that the low beams are on the outer and highs on the inside...I've never seen otherwise on any car??? Sounds like some leg pulling going on....

I would have asked to see HIS FGF....I've had a few of those....some are tolerable and informative, others are just plain belligerent. Those are the ones I ask to see theirs...and they usually make some excuse as to why its not at the show...or ...
Lows definitely on the outside, for one reason, as width markers in everyday (nite) driving.

I've seen two 67's in the greater cleveland area with mine being one of them but run into seven people a day that had one!
What about bare metal vin & cowl tags? My cowl is black but should it be bare? Vin?

I figured he mocked one up in his garage in 65 and sold it to Pontiac in late 66! That has to be it!

Maybe him and John D. whipped up the mock-up in his garage back in '65.

Seriously, are your cowl and vin tags painted or bare?

You have a '67, your vin tag is on the door jamb, mine is on the dash, '68, but it is black along with the black interior.
I'm not sure, but i'd guess the jamb tags are the original color of the car, or just plain metal depending on when they were put on at the factory, and i'm not sure about that.

'67 tag is bare metal. (not painted) Mounted on the driver's front door jamb.
'68 tag is on the firewall painted black to match the remainder of the firewall.

'67 VIN tag is on the door jamb, and is unpainted. '67 cowl tag is underhood black.
'68-'69 VIN tag is on the dash, is a black oxide tone (not paint). Cowl tag is underhood black.

It's shear jealousy.
Have you ever played Car Show Bingo? It's a great way of those comments into fun.

The vin tag(on doors) where NOT painted.

I had one guy literally "gloat" over the fact my shifter was not correct (flat instead of round)...I nicely mentioned I had the round one at home waiting to go in but I knew where it might fit nicely if i had it in my hand. LOL
