Ames is selling some stuff produced by ThePartsPlace (for example their superior 400 hood tach - I know it for sure, I bought one from Ames...) and they even don´t bother to erase the PartsPlace sticker...

I guess they all do that to some extent. That's like PY, they get almost EVERYTHING from Ames...

I'm a bit confused. ...there was a big thread about the tachs and they came out on top I thought....I don't mind and prefer ordering from Ames but I want the best for the bucks...

As told before: the better Ames tach (Ames was offering 2 tachs at some point, a cheaper one and a more expensive one, the latter told by themselves to be much better) is definitely the tach produced and sold through ThePartsPlace. I didn´t trust ThePartsPlace at that time, so I ordered the Ames´ tach -- only to see that they even didn´t bother to erase ThePartsPlace sticker on the tach box sold through Ames...
Concerning the source Terry mentioned I´m not familiar with. Never heard of a better tach than the Ames/PartsPlaceTach although the PerformanceYears tach comes VERY close (and shows the correct 68 steel blue colored becel). There are only minor differences...
Using the Ames/PartsPlace tach with a pointless Pertronix Ignitor for a period of 2 years now I never had any issues...

Thats the way I will go then, Ames, I have Pertronix and a stock tach in amazing cosmetic shape....but it just will not work with the Pertronix, bounces all over the place. Tried the resistor fix....then it does not even move...Too Bad. Well at least i can flog it and pretty well pay for the new one...

Even if Ames is selling the Parts Place products, IMO you would still be better off buying through Ames just in case you are not happy with the item and or have a problem. At least you know Ames will stand behind it and take car of you. Whereas with the Parts Place I'm not so sure that will be the case.
Ames has never done me wrong in the nine years I have been buying from them. In one case with a pair of exterior door handles they pitted only after a year on the car. Sent an E-mail to Ames and they replied immediately and told me to send them back and they would send me a new pair. Plain and simple. I had one other issue with a set of date coded wires, I called and was pretty hot over the issue. Steve Ames called me back and made things right. I'm not so sure the others would be so quick and willing to make things right. I've had issues with CI and they were not willing to help, had an issue with NPD and they were so so.

if you have trouble with any items, the parts place has a terrible reputation for customer satisfaction.my buddy bought one of their elcheapo kickdown switches and they sent him a brake light switch instead.they argued with him for a week before they would take it back and when they did, they did not want to send him the correct part.all this time, his 69 ta was in the shop costing him money.

Agreed, my dealings with Ames has always been exemplary. I received a glove box lite/switch, which fell apart when trying to install it. Called them up and a new switch was in the mail that day. They did not even want the broken one back for whatever reason.

I've had problems with Ames as well, but overall they are still better than TPP.
