I just installed a new gas tank along with a new fuel sending unit. Now i have never ran the car with the old gas tank on it (FYI). so i hit the throttle and i have no gas spraying into my carb. i disconect the fule line from fuel pump and attach a 5ft fule line and run it into a 3 gallon gas tank. she starts right up...
now i am just confused here. could it be that the fuel sending unit is stuck up at the top of the gas tank and isnt making contact with the fule yet?
im only 15 but doing all the work on my bird, cant wait to get her on the road!
It takes a while to get fuel from the tank up to the fuel pump from a bone dry tank, sender and fuel lines.
All my stuff was also brand new, so before I started cranking my engine after getting it all together, I put a hand vaccum pump on the fuel line from the tank up where it connects to the fuel pump and pulled fuel from the tank so I would not be cranking for quite a while.
Once you make sure you have fuel to the fuel pump and then you find out you still have no fuel coming up to the carb - then you might have a fuel pump problem.

Make sure the fuel pump lines are hooked up correctly. The fuel line from the gas tank goes to the fuel pump "in". The fuel line from the fuel pump "out" goes to the carburetor. It is possible to connect them backwards. Don't ask me how I know.
