Last thing on my list before I can buy everything I need to rebuild my engine...
My pistons look like this:
With 'O' on the rings and '<<40' on the piston. Does this mean my pistons are oversized by 40 thou (and hence my cylinders bored out)? The rings would be standard ('O') to these new pistons, not the originals?
Could anyone recommend to me where I can purchase replacement rings? My engine is a 326, and most parts sites I've searched do not stock them for the 326... I'm buying a pair of cylinder heads from Butler and even they said they couldn't source any for me...

"O" on the rings means "This side up" and the "40" probably does mean .040 over. Do you have a shop that can measure them?
326 rings are very hard to find due to the strange size.
TOHCan rebuilt a 326 recently and was able to find rings that could be made to work. I know I should know this but I just can't seem to get a grip on my memory of the event.
By the way, I visit the UK several times a year. If you have a need for small things that are not urgently needed, I can get them to you easily. I also ship to my company in Exeter all the time and they are used to seeing packets within the packages that need to be forwarded within the UK.
yes, the engine is 40 over bore. i would try napa auto parts. if there are a lot of miles on it i would definately have the block checked. you only have 20 left to bore out if you need to.
The standard bore size for the 326 is 3.718. The standard bore size for a Chev 305 is 3.736. If your bore is .040 over for your 326, you need .020 over Chev 305 rings. Lots of suppliers of Chev 305 rings out there.
