When we bought the doner car for our '68 bird, it had a not original 400 motor in it. We are trying to figure out what it is and what year it was produced. Facing the motor on the left side underneath the head we think the number is 382395. And under that is YX. Any one have any ideas?

There were several Pontiac YX engine codes: It could be A 4-bbl 389 from 1966, A 4-bbl 400 from 1967, A 2-bbl 400 from 1971, A 4-bbl 400 from 1972, A 2 or 4-bbl 400 from 1973, A 4-bbl 455 from 1974. If it is one of the later motors, it will say 400 or 455 on the side of the block. Try and get the date code off the rear of the block: Fred's Pontiac Info

I have a YX motor in mine, it was a 72 400 2 bbl 200 hp automatic, before I "fixed" it
