HEY DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY INFO ON 67 RAGTOPS? .I HAVE THE INFO FROM PHS.MY CAR WAS A 2ND DAY PRODUCTION ( FEB 16TH 1967 ) PRODUCTION # WAS 287. PHS WAS UNABLE TO TELL ME HOW MANY RAG TOPS WERE MADE BEFORE PRODUCTION # 287 . I AM JUST CURIOUS, I KNOW THIS WAS ONE OF THE FIRST RAGTOPS, BUT WHICH ONE! THANKS,KEVIN
More information is needed. Production # 287 on the cowl tag is not the body number, it is a plant scheduling number. The three to five digit number after the plant ID LOR on the body tag is the actual chassis #. I'd need to know what the car series is (i.e. 67-22437) on the body tag and also need the last 6 digits of the VIN to see if I have any earlier recorded cars of that style. There is not a master document of how many were built, but I've been collecting car info for a few years for this purpose.
There is not a one to one correlation on VIN to body tag sequencing. Chassis numbers repeat by car series.
I have documented cars built 01A, 01B, 01C, 02B that are earlier than your car, both coupes and convertibles. The earliest VIN I have recorded is 100179.

Hey guys thanks for the info. i have a copy of the car billing history. vehicle id # 223677u100287 . I was told from phs that the invoice date, 02/16/7 , was the build date.just trying to gather all of the correct data. the car is @ the body so i don't have the cowl tag handy.Any & all help is needed. thanks again kevin
Yours is the earliest 22667 (deluxe interior convertible) I have seen (#74). Next closest is #131 which was a 6 cyl car VIN 600339. Build date 01A, first week of January 1967.
Optioned out as follows: 256Z Custom Option Vinyl - Dark Turquoise K2 Gulf Turquoise with black convertible top D Power Convertible Top 2W 2 speed auto trans
Must be a 326 2bbl car since it's a V8 and not a 400.
How does that compare to how the car looks today?

hey yellowbird the car was white & ten other colors when we got it. the top was trashed & all power top items are gone. it is a 326 2sp powerglide. we have the original block & heads. body wise, i need only rear floor pans. the trunk, frame rails are in great shape. the rest of the body was'nt bad, but were putting new doors & quarters & fenders patches. interior, needs everything. we hope to have it done by this summer.we'll keep you updated on the progress. thanks for the info kevin
What is (if any) the significance of the invoice dates on our PHS paperwork? My documents indicate an invoice date of 2/16/67 as well, but my vehicle has a cowl date of 01c, built some 2 weeks after Kevin's.
Yellowbird- Are you still compiling data, and if so, what is your threshold for an endpoint in accumulating data? It seems difficult to know how many FGF units remain and what is a "reasonable" sample size of responding owners. - John
I don't expect to be able to compile the remaining units. PHS would be much better able to approximate based on requests for data.
I have over 100 '67s in the database. A database of 500 or 1000 would be far more accurate. However, taking the time to enter and extract all the data is very time consuming, as is stripping out data from cars that do not have matching tags or have been so heavily reoptioned that they are not useful for decoding purposes.
If I put the "registry" form back together, I will post its availability here. There are certain things for each year that would have a separate questionnaire, such as headrest style and dash ball styles on '69, rubber vs. accordion dash vent tubes on '68, and more.
John, I am pretty sure you did give me the info of your car with the others. I will double check.

And I forgot about one more, it's so early it's a 12C build. Owned by a member here, also a 22667 series, VIN #5, body #8. I do not know if this car was ever released for retail sale.

hey john i love that car!. was your car @ bowling green in any of the shows? if so, i think i saw it. that's an awesome ride.can't wait to get ours finished.
John, Where did your car get shipped to? It's loaded, which is not typical for early cars. Do you have a pic of the cowl tag?
Kevin, Last year, I saw the twin of your car, 50 cars later, same options but gold. Also had that same 9 on the cowl tag. I've never seen that on a LOR tag before....
That 12C is the earliest tag I've seen. Pretty normal to have a few cars built early for testing and show cars. Then regular production would ramp up.
My car was Number 81 built in the 5th week of January at the Lordstown, Ohio plant. The invoice date on my PHS docs reads 02 16 7, so 16th of feb 1967 as well!
Wouter, Thanks! Yours is the 81st convertible with standard interior built. I don't have a convertible dlx interior car close to your VIN, but they were well into the 100's for body #'s by then.
This is where the differences in how Camaros vs Firebirds were optioned are really noticable. Most Camaros are base interior. Most Firebirds are deluxe interior.
Kevin: Thanks for compliments - I do appreciate it. I have not had it to Bowling Green but I did go to Sommerset last year with the Power Tour.
Kurt: My car was shipped to a dealer in Oklahoma and was a Zone Car used for promotional purposes. From what I understand, Pontiac kept ownership of it until it was done making the rounds in that zone. The cowl tag is long gone, but I do know the unit number was 16. All the options were confirmed through PHS. The car was written up in High Performance Pontiac which did some additional research with PHS and hence the Zone Car history.
That's kinda what I expected. It would go to a dealer, but then get passed around the zone's showrooms. Normally, it made it back to the dealer. I've run across a 69 pacecar that did a zone tour, but then also went to Indy for the race and then back to the dealer.
hey guys, i'll get pictures of the tag next time i go to the paint shop. thanks for all the info.I want to build the car as close to original as i can kevin
Still funny that the invoice date on both our Birds is the 16th of feb 1967!
Maybe everybody that registers to this site should post their data so Vikki can gather as much info as she can. And it would be cool to see what kind of info PHS keeps track of (requested info on Birds over the past 10 years for example) to see which Birds are still on the road, a topic discussed in Ramblings&Chatter...
Kevin: Yes, I was there. Drove all day through rain, some of it torrential, to spend about 2hours there and then return home. The only time it didn't rain was at the show:)
No kidding, and I'm not sure what to do with it. It will be for sale sometime next year. I'm curious about the history. If it was built prior to full production why was it so bare bones? Any ideas?
Early builds don't seem to hold much of an edge over any other dates on the market, the only ones to seem to do that are the very first of a model and the very last. Heavily optioned cars definitely draw more $$ and buyers.

Thanks Vikki, I'm not concerned about the $$, just thought it was interesting that it was such an early build. Haven't sent for PHS docs on this one yet. Tried to PM you but mailbox was over limit. I'm curious about your database.
Yeah, sorry, I leave my box full when I am working 60+ hour weeks or I feel bad when I have to ignore messages.
I collected data from owners, eBay, and personal inspection of 100+ '67 Firebirds for the sole purpose of figuring out the data plate to VIN correlation. Got that down...would like to move on to collecting more data, such as options that have style changeover dates, special options like "Bird Glass", casting dates vs build date, etc.
I will...sometime...have the server up waiting for me to have time to do it. By the look of it, it won't be anytime soon.

Most early production cars are low option, volume cars. Gotta get the line running first before they added the option complexity into the process. The exceptions are the early cars that were done for testing, shows, etc. They often have options on them.
What's the VIN? That's the first 12D car I've seen. Note it has that same 9 on the bottom of the tag.
