You guys have been great. I've learned more in the last 18 hours than I have over the last 1+ month in my search. If you would be willing, would you go to the the websites below and comment on the cars that I'm looking at and the price they're asking. I'm going this Staurday to look at all 3 so any help will be appreciated.
None of these cars are numbers matching at least with respect to the engines.
All cars look pretty god from what you can tell from those ads... I think I would go in order of no 3, no1,no 2 and 4.. I am partial to the 69...but it looks great, has nice top, clear plastic, hood tach...price seems fine...Looks like mine (but maine has no tach)! the 67 red is nice , is convert.,price is good.. the 68 coupe is very nice , but drawback in my mind is coupe , not convert.and black is hard to keep clean...looks great when just washed ,but only 20 minutes later... the 4th car is pretty high in price ,even if matching no`s , but its still not a 'clean' car...not right wheels. I think the 69 or the first 67 is what I`d pick..
but you have to look them over to see in person, hard to tell if any was in wreck or how fixed...look for rust or bubbles, behind rear wheels , just in front of doors at front fenders, trunk, floor pans ,see if you can get them on a lift...check out under ,drive them ,feel out how the engines run/trannies shift.
see if you can get someone who owns one to go with you when you look at them , maybe one from this site thats close by....someone who`s been thru it before , can check all the 'typical' spots... but it looks like you have a great selection to pick from ,wish I had had that nice a collection to go over when I bought mine..
Ok, they are all nice! Maybe priced a little high, (bad time of year to buy, good time to sell) but all quite nice!
The first one has some nice options (4-speed, vert) will bring a good resale value over all. Disc brakes are nice to have etc... If you can get them down a little, that would be a good candidate.
(on all of them, check the trunk for prior panel repair, flooe pans, wheel wells and lower fron & rear fenders for repair or signs of rust)
The second one get's my vote over all as a dark color paint job has got to have great prep and body work! BUT... it's at a dealer, so you won't have much room to haggle on the price... But over all this one looks the best, tight, clean and sounds to be built right! Heater hoses not hooked up? Bad heater core? something up there? And there is some paint over spray on the hose, like they touched up the paint on the motor? So check it out close
The 3rd one, the 69 looks to be very nice also! New top and very clean, nice options, and good records.. all in all, pretty close on the price, but again a little high for where you could be buying at... but there may be some room to work. (I always like buying from a private party personally) If it was a red car from the factory, then just check all the usual stuff...
The last one I feel is way over priced, and not original enough to carry that price... sounds just ok to me... but not at that price... suspension looks to be modified a little etc... and makes no mention of any real factory options which are the kool part!
The first 3 I believe have posi, and lots of upgrades, as well as nice factory options... I would say, find one with the most bang for the buck. The more options, and the more that has already been done to the car, that you don't have to pay for later, the better!
The hood tach cars are always nice!
I would say the Black Cherry 68 coupe for the money, (but it may be a little radical for what you may be looking for?) then the 69 Ragtop, then the 1st 67 ragtop, then the last 67 ragtop in that order just from a quick over view...
Keep us posted, and let us know if we can help you in your hunt!
looks to me they have all gone up during the last year... I paid $8500 for mine 3 yrs ago, but I have put lots of $$ into it since...prob. now its close to $22-23K total.I now have it insured for $20, but think I could possibly get $16-17K for it if I sold it but no more...
I think 13-15 for any of those would be a "good" price, but the last one is overpriced. I was looking for cars in the $12-15 range when looking , didn`t find what I was looking for...
I really like the '68, but for not much more the 'vert's can't be beat!
Bjorn, no offense, but I really love my '68 coupe. With a nice vinyl roof the coupes looks sweet! A 'vert would be nice, but MORE than happy with my 400 HO. Sorry, but I had to defend my girl, lol!!
I'm with Bjorn on this one. I paid $13,500 for mine last year and put a few grand into stereo, timing chain, ignition stuff, exhaust system and a lot of other invisible upgrades including weatherstripping and procurement of replacements for missing original parts. It's insured for $25,000 and the insurable value is now pushing $30,000. It is a numbers match car, body, engine including VIN, trans including VIN, and all correct and original carb, distributor, intake, etc. Bjorn, I'm jealous that you got yours for such a good price, but I know you've done a lot to it.
Vikki 1969 Goldenrod Yellow / black 400 convertible numbers matching
all cars look sweet to me but I am still a sucker for the 69 model. I have owned 3 69's and 1 68. I love the felling of the 4 spd now compared to the auto but on those lazy days an auto was just the thing. Have never owned a convertable but would love to fell the air russhing overhead and the sun shining down. Price seems fair on these cars but never jump into something to fast. Find what you realy wan't if you are going to spend that much on a car. Test drive all and get a felling for what YOU wan't. Sometimes you have to pass up a deal to get what you wan't. I never let color be the reason as it can always be changed to what you want. Just remember it is what you want.

Maybe someday I will get this thing off the road to do a full restoration
My family had a '66 LeMans 'vert for many years, was my first car to drive. Really miss that car, put her through hell, though! Hope she's still going somewhere!
